Would it be too much to ask that the actual shooter be blamed.   Unless and until others are implicated in his plot there is no point at all in pointing fingers or playing the but Obama nonsense.
This is not the first time nor will it be the last that something like this happens.  Blaming society, blaming certain aspects of media, etc. is intellectually dishonest.

Blood loss before the EMT's arrived.  One of the first reports I heard this morning said someone had to use a belt as a tourniquet in his leg to stop the bleeding...that tells me IMO that an artery was nicked or damaged in that area.  Bullet could have fragmented upon hitting bone and the doctors haven't been able to get all the little bleeders stopped.

I believe it was Flake that ran out to care for Scalise once the shooter was down... He said so, and was there for about 15min before EMT took over.

The doctors were worried about femoral artery damage on Scalise...

Saw on Fox one of the other Congressmen that treated him is actually a surgeon with experience in Iraq.   He didn't have any equipment of course but I would assume he did the best possible under the conditions.    He said Scalise said he was thirsty so they gave him fluids (gatorade) and then IVs when the paramedics got there.

Many of us have noticed the increasingly violent nature of the left's political rhetoric over the past years, which has accelerated in the past several months.

What in the world is wrong with suggesting that what clearly is an assassination attempt is a result of this trend? How in the world do you expect to prevent more violence if we do not identify its root cause?

Pretty much any trauma victim with that long a surgical procedure and presumably multiple transfusions will go to the ICU post op.  Respiratory and renal function need to be closely monitored and further transfusion need is possible.  It is not surprising at all he is in the icu which buys you a critical listing
