The problem, of course, is that those who read these types of articles are already not having kids, or at least only one. Europe is already below replacement. Much of America is already declining in population, just three generations after one of the biggest baby booms in the country's history.
The growth in population is being driven almost entirely by two factors: 1, increasing life expectancy and 2, "third world" couples having mass amounts of babies even though they may not even have the resources to take care of themselves. Kids that would once die in childhood are now living to old age. Western society overcompensated by pushing a genteel society where our prime reproductive years were stuck in college or trying to establish a white-collar career, having to choose between family and success. Red China was more blunt and mandated no more than one child per family. The third world hasn't caught on yet, and with our politics of "one man one vote," these types are poised to take over the world.
The actual birth rate of humanity hasn't increased. Our survival rate has.
