Trump discusses Qatar with Egypt's president: report
By Ellen Mitchell - 06/09/17 02:30 PM EDT President Trump on Friday spoke by phone with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi to discuss the need for Gulf unity on the same day the State Department urged Gulf countries to ease the blockade against Qatar, according to the White House.
This is the fourth call Trump has had with a Gulf regional leader since Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates and other nations on Monday severed formal relations with Qatar. The countries accused its government of supporting terrorism and effectively set up a blockade by cutting air, land and sea travel with Qatar.
Trump pushed a need for Gulf unity on the calls but also made clear he sees a need for Qatar to improve its behavior, a senior administration official told Reuters.
The White House released a statement after the call that said the two presidents "agreed on the importance of all countries implementing the agreements reached in Riyadh to fight terrorism, counter extremism, and stop the funding of terrorist groups."
