Accused Leaker of Top-Secret U.S. Report Loses Bail Request
Bloomberg News, Jun 8, 2017, Patricia Hurtado

A former U.S. Air Force linguist charged with passing a top-secret report about Russian hacking to a news organization was denied bail by a magistrate judge who said the woman had taken other classified information that could still be passed to enemies of the U.S.

Reality Leigh Winner, 25, a government contract worker with top-secret security clearance, pleaded not guilty Thursday to an espionage charge in federal court in Augusta, Georgia, and was ordered to remain in custody out of concern she poses a risk to national security.

A federal prosecutor said in court that authorities had uncovered a series of “new and downright frightening" other acts by Winner, including inserting a thumb drive into her Air Force computer and taking classified information while she was still in the military.

Also from the article:

Quote
In denying Winner’s request to be released while awaiting trial, Epps also cited her journal which federal agents found during a search of her Augusta home. She allegedly expressed support in her writings for Taliban leaders and Osama bin Laden as well as proclaiming she wanted to burn down the White House.

What she did seems to point towards aiding and abetting enemies of the US that could have led to deaths of soldiers or civilians.

Treason is the logical outcome if it does, with the appropriate penalties.

The way I read the definition, she can't be found guilty of treason:
Quote
"Treason against the United States shall consist only in levying war against them, or in adhering to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort. No person shall be convicted of treason unless on the testimony of two witnesses to the same overt act, or on confession in open Court.

We do not have "enemies", as we haven't declared war against anyone. Leaking classified info is a completely different issue.
You can avoid reality, but you cannot avoid the consequences of avoiding reality.

You may be correct, but am unsure of whether in fact we have no enemies.

I'll settle for a crime of espionage which cost the Rosenbergs their lives at Sing Sing for spilling the secrets of atomic bomb.

I wonder what liberal-funded NGO will give her a permanent sinecure when she finishes her sentence?

She "leaked" a classified document to "The Intercept," a leftist online publication, about hacking vote systems, and elections.

Although asked not to, The Intercept did publish the material, with some requested redactions. Not exactly putting soldiers' and citizens' lives at risk.

Never the less, hang her high to serve as an example for similarly minded folks.  Read about it for yourselves, if you want into the weeds.
