Denial of what they are. But that's becoming pretty common on many fronts these days. Many can't even figure out if they are male or female it seems... At that point there isn't much reality left...

I remember talking twenty some years ago to a young man who was a stepson of a friend of mine during a Thanksgiving dinner.
He tried to tell me that humans only started eating meat during a severe food  crisis about ten thousand years ago. I tried to explain to him that humans had evolved as omnivores hundreds of thousands of years before.  Which is why we have incisors and molars. 
I don't know if I convinced him of anything, but I knew then that many young people were being fed (no pun intended) a pile of hogwash by the vegans.
Some people just can't accept reality.  Humans evolved as hunters and meat-eaters.  Until humans started establishing permanent residences, farming and intensive agriculture wasn't part of their lives.
