It's official - a hung parliament. Conservatives have 309 seats with only 16 remaining to be counted.

A hung parliament sounds similar to what we call gridlock.

Anyway, there sure are a lot of doom and gloom forecasters out there.  I hope this can ultimately be just the proverbial bump in the road.

It doesn't prevent earlier elections based on a vote of no-confidence or a 2/3 vote by parliament.  It only requires elections every five years, so it basically puts a cap on the longevity of parliament.

Theresa May has confirmed she plans to stay on as Britain's prime minister to provide certainty to the country, with support from Northern Ireland's Democratic Unionist Party.

After a brief meeting with Queen Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace, May said Friday the new government will guide Britain's exit talks from the European Union, which are set to begin in just 10 days.
