Comey offers dramatic details of Trump meeting in opening statement
By Katie Bo Williams - 06/07/17 01:55 PM EDT

Fired FBI Director James Comey on Thursday will confirm reports that President Trump pressed him to let go of the bureau’s investigation into former national security advisor Michael Flynn.

Comey on Wednesday released the opening statement of his highly anticipated testimony to the Senate Intelligence Committee.

In an encounter shortly after Flynn’s, Comey's statement says, Trump said he hoped that Comey could "let go" of the investigation.

In another, Comey reports that the president said to him, "I need loyalty. I expect loyalty."

Comey also confirmed Trump's claim that he assured the president personally he was not under investigation.

In a discussion following Comey's March 20 disclosure of the existence of the investigation, Comey will testify, he told the president that he had informed congressional leadership on which individuals were currently under investigation.

"I did not tell the president that the FBI and the Department of Justice had been reluctant to make public statements that we did not have an open case on President Trump for a number of reasons, most importantly because it would create a duty to correct, should that change," Comey plans to say.

Basically a quid quo pro  of loyalty for his job?  Which is practiced in business routinely.

I don't think congress has much to work with here.

Big fat zero, which the MSM will play up as proof of conspiracy to obstruct justice, etc.  I don't think the American people will see it that way.  They expect leadership from the POTUS and that is what he showed.

Are we to assume there was no "loyalty" between Eric Holder and Obama?  Give me a break.  Comey simply found Trump's assertive personality too crude for his Washington Beltway sensibilities.  Waiting until he was fired to disclose all this just makes him look worse.

Trump Exonerated – Fired FBI Director James Comey Releases His Prepared Remarks to Media…
Posted on June 7, 2017   by sundance

Fired FBI Director James Comey has released his carefully prepared opening remarks that he will deliver to congress tomorrow.

However, before discussing the remarks it is important to note the reason for their release. It’s politics, pure unadulterated politics; there is no “there” there.

These remarks are released specifically to lower expectations and carefully deflate the entire construct of the ‘President Trump Interference narrative’.

Eat Crow Lefties

1 Classic Management. Have an undesirable decline the job.

The reason Trump asked Comey if he wished to stay on is a classic management
maneuver. When you wish to ditch someone, it is easiest if they eliminate themselves
up front. Quite easy and this can be put in a nice speech about how much the country
is appreciative of their service.

I did this same thing when replacing a supervisor in my department. The man in
question had gone to a VP about several of my actions. I waited until he was in a
temporary vacation fill upgrade and then spent the day with him. Of course it was to
ask the key question.

It is hard for a candidate to criticize your future choice when he specifically declined.
If they wish the position, you are in no worse situation because you considered them.

A bit sneaky but standard form.

2  Letters to the File
One writes letters to the file when you do not trust the actions of a peer or supervisor.
I had occasion to do so with a boss.

I would be interested in the format of the letter. How was it retained. And its custody.

I took the opportunity to sign and date the letter. I had a management peer on the same
level in the company seal and sign the envelope containing the letter. I suppose that I
could also had a notary also sign and date the package.

I did a similar thing when designing a technical test. I base lined the test and then
signed and dated the material and had another manager sign and seal the package.

If the letter was left on a computer or printed out and placed into a file, the chain of
custody can be questioned. The wording can be changed and improved in case you
are relieved of your duties.

Not that anyone would think that Comey would edit or improve his own letters.

Boy is this a whole lotta nuthin'.  At most - I emphasize at most - it makes Trump look a little sleazy, but then we've known since the 1990s at least that he's a slightly sleazy NYC real estate developer (which is more or less redundant, they all are).

Comey isn't even very good at spinning this into something more than it is, despite trying.  In fact, several times he sounds like some matron with the vapors in a romance novel confronted by that "dastardly bounding cad" who asked too quickly for her hand at the dance.

What a pathetic excuse.

Comey only started writing his *memos* with Trump....how convenient...

I have found myself, a few times in my life, in a position where a huge amount of my personal resources had to be directed into documenting conversations as a CYA reality.

ALL of those times it was because I was having to deal with KNOWN political manipulators, shysters, and lowlife scumbag liars with business aspirations far exceeding that which they rightfully deserved.

The problem wasn't me... the problem was that I was the one that would be in the crosshairs when shit went down.

Didn't he hide in the drapes on one occasion to avoid Trump.

No. I've seen video and photos of the event in question. He was standing in front of the drapes. He made a passing remark to someone about wanting to avoid Trump and hoping he could "blend into the drapes". It is common knowledge as to why he was trying to avoid Trump. He didn't want to be compromised.

I do think that Comey's statement is very damaging to Trump.  There was nothing right about what Trump was doing. He was trying to interfere and persuade the head of the FBI into dropping the investigation.

This is no different than Clinton's meeting on the airplane with Lynch. In fact in Trump's case it is worse as he is the sitting POTUS.

Let's say Lynch had an attack of conscience and decided to make a statement as to what Clinton had said to her. Let us imagine that he asked her to show loyalty to Hillary and "let it go". Remove the "cloud" over her campaign. Would we all be okay with that?
