What did Maher mean? That he doesn't do honest work, yes, but why throw in the N-word?
The term was generally used for more genteel (usually older), better mannered
servants who do their master's bidding inoffensively. NOTE "Master" is used in the sense of 'boss', or the Master of the House and does not necessarily imply involuntary servitude.
To wit: a "flunky", and not the one calling the shots.
An interesting comment on Maher's part, and perhaps an admission that he is not important enough in the grand scheme of things to make any decisions. he is just a mouthpiece.
