Former FBI Director James Comey is “angry” that Attorney General Jeff Sessions and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein blindsided him by firing him without discussing job performance issues with him first, according to a new report on Friday.
Comey is expected to testify from that perspective next week in a hotly anticipated appearance before the Senate Intelligence Committee, according to ABC News.
Reports since Comey’s firing have indicated that the president was looking for reasons to fire Comey since he took over the White House, fueling speculation that Trump was seeking to interfere in the investigation.
Comey is expected to testify about his interaction with the president around the investigation.
Sessions and Rosenstein reportedly met to discuss replacing Comey months ago, before either joined the Justice Department, and also discussed Comey’s "deeply troubling" performance and "serious mistakes" with the president in February, according to ABC.
