From the album ‘Keep On Rockin’ (originally ‘NINETEENNINETYFOUR’, 1993)

Alvin says… one of my favourite tracks from my album ‘1994’. It has George Harrison on slide guitar and is one of the best solos he ever played. It’s a masterpiece, so sensitive. Hearing George made me play more sensitive too!

Heard this one earlier today:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vEay_cRPpIw

They say Billy Preston's early gospel music albums are pretty good; when he was a musician before playing with major bands like the Beatles.

I never knew "Rock and Roll Love Letter" was written by Tim Moore; I consider it a great song and the Bay City Rollers did a cover.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uGfMzzTSC1c

Reading up on Moore, most sources like allmusic.com say he is/was a great songwriter who just never got his due.

This year the 1st day of summer is June 21st, but it is often June 20th. I found it interesting that Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys was born on this day in history because the Beach Boys music is so associated with Summer.

Your music and you are all welcome.

http://www.onthisday.com/music/birthdays.php

Pavel Haas, a Czech composer who died in the Holocaust was born on this day:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ptos8-fWa4A

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jqao5ieLPug

Well, a lot of famous contemporary music people may not have been born on your birthday if Nils Lofgren is one of the most famous names on today's list.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NEgjxp0hpVw

Now, this song has a title that really sticks out... OC Smith celebrates a birthday today:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=guGkYQoHo_U

As does Ray Davies, so he indeed is well known.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AOnSreW3QZo
Saw a video claiming "Low Budget" was the Kinks' most successful album, maybe, probably. It doesn't mean it was there best but it is good.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W2HwKnMacNA

Joey Kramer,. Aerosmith's drummer was born on this day in history. I understand Kramer has made a few interviews and said things about some "bigger bands" that set people off.  People may say things, I may not always agree. They have the right to their opinion though.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3-2u2lhGO4w

Marcella Detroit too, she co-wrote "Lay Down Sally", the song we know that Eric Clapton had success with. I believe I came across her about some song a few months ago.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aWRcquU3CTE

Pat Sansone, Wilco:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F6cJ1u6O-0Q
That's a band that a number of people have liked. I've heard them favorably spoken of by Kinks fans. Not too familiar with their music.

On this day in history:
Quote
2016, Trumpeter Wayne Jackson, who formed the Memphis Horns duo with saxophonist Andrew Love, died of congestive heart failure at the age of 74. Jackson and Love played together on 52 No.1 songs, supporting the likes of Elvis Presley, Neil Diamond, Otis Redding, Al Green, Aretha Franklin, Peter Gabriel and the Doobie Brothers.

I peeked at today's birthdays, a lot of people, so let's get the ball rolling.

http://www.onthisday.com/music/birthdays.php
http://www.thisdayinmusic.com/born_today

Anyone can post any music they want; it does not have to be some musician spotlighted by today in music history.

He wrote "Me and Bobby McGee", a defining song of the rock era, of course, Janis Joplin made it popular. He also wrote this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3IM6ETbbtB0

So, happy birthday to Kris Kristofferson and others today.

Jimmy Castor

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=19GEPSnU14k

Peter Asher of Peter and Gordon

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yracAP-R-RY

Todd Rundgren, I think he has displayed some liberal leanings lately but this isn't about that.  Friends in highschool had his albums telling me how good he was.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jSC8aOexjyM
Looks like he's dressed for glam, wild times.

Howard Kaylan of the Turtles

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qV2mTOQORgg
Quite a nice little song.

Derek Forbes of the Scottish-based band, Simple Minds

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eg9EoJnn-IQ

Eliades Ochoa of the Buena Vista Social Club, Cuban oriented music.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OojRYnoTF6U

Steven Page of the barenaked ladies who have quite a few good songs, in spite of the name.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LxFobwJoaLU

In 1971, the 2nd Glastonbury festival occurred in the UK, it is going on now too, in 2017.

1971, The second Glastonbury Festival in England took place. Held over 5 days to coincide with the summer solstice, (the weather was, for a British 'summer' very good). Acts who appeared included: Melanie, Quintessence, David Bowie, The Edgar Broughton Band, Pink Fairies, Terry Reid - with David Lyndley and Linda Lewis, Gong, Hawkwind, Arthur Brown, Brinsley Schwarz, Fairport Convention, Family and Traffic. Over 7,000 fans attended the event. - See more at: http://www.thisdayinmusic.com/#sthash.MvJRoA7C.dpuf

I'm only looking at the first name on the list....if there are others, it's up-to-others today.

Happy Birthday to June Carter Cash of the Carter family and of course, she was married to Johnny Cash:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mfy9omfNzXU

In Prague, I believe that is an error in saying "John Carter Cash" in the title, it should be "June Carter Cash."

Birthday children today include . . .

Milt Hinton---jazz bassist, bop pioneer---he was the house bassist at Minton's in the 1940s where bop
first formulated; and, surprising bass contributor to one of John Lee Hooker's best albums:

Stuart Sutcliffe---first bassist for the Beatles; left to study art in Hamburg and marry his photographer
girl friend when he was felled by a brain hemorrhage in 1962 before the Beatles got to record:

Robert Hunter---lyricist, the Grateful Dead:

Robert Hunter indeed has co-written some fine songs,

Quote
Hunter was born Robert Burns in Oceano, California. In a 1973 Rolling Stone profile of the Grateful Dead, Charles Perry reported that he is a great-great grandson of noted Romantic poet Robert Burns.[3] A

I guess the Orlons did not do "loop de loop", that is an interesting one-off uncommon song too, I've kind of liked it.

@pookie18 :

Have you ever seen actual doo wop done on the street-corners type of thing.  I think that's been written about. It must have been around awhile before it actually had commercial success.

@TomSea

No, only as recreated in movies. Though I grew up in Brooklyn, I didn't get into music right away & my interest in Doo Wop developed at a later age...

50 years ago, this song was a smash, it's considered great by many. Of course, the original was by Procol Harum. Here is Percy Sledge's rendition.
