@TomSea
Latest I saw: they have a gunman in custody. James Hodgkinson, 66, from Illinois. House Majority Whip Steve Scalise
was one of the wounded. A Congressional aide took a bullet in the stomach. Hodgkinson is said to have been living
in Alexandria the past couple of months. Alabama Congressman Mo Brooks thinks the shooter fired up to 40 shots
with a rifle.

Sick. And I'm probably being polite about it.

We are back to the Birthdays, this day in music history.

http://www.onthisday.com/music/birthdays.php

Quote
1910 David Rose, orchestra leader (Red Skelton Show, Stripper), born in London, England

Is this the David Rose of "lounge music" fame?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-8hlO_aJxKA
Original by Donovan

Quote
1923 Erroll Garner, American jazz pianist (Misty), born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qS17Zkoq_vk

Interestingly enough, I once watched a video on Pittsburgh Doo Wop:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MP9WKLLZfyY

It's also the birthday of Nigel Pickering who was in Spanky and Our Gang, we had them here not too long ago and of Waylon Jennings. One of Waylon's songs was posted not too long ago as well.

Harry Nilsson:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TsSuueEGQSM

A French singer, Johnny Hallyday, I think he has an expansive long career, not sure quite how to characterize him. Rock and Roll:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O94Pe6V7B6w

Brad Gillis of Night Ranger:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bVey-358Vcc

And others.

http://www.thisdayinmusic.com/born_today

On this day:
Quote
1963, Kyu Sakamoto started a three week run at No.1 on the US singles chart with 'Sukiyaki', the first-ever Japanese song to do so. It made No.6 on the UK chart in 1963 and was also a No.10 UK single for Kenny Ball in the same year.
http://www.thisdayinmusic.com/

Quote
1943, Born on this day, Muff Winwood, The Spencer Davis Group, (1966 UK No.1 single 'Keep On Running). Became a producer and A&R man for Sony Records.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=leM4f3_l71E

This song was popular on our FM radio station, it rocks.

Steve Winwood was once a member of the Spencer Davis group.  Looks like him in the picture to the far right.  Muff Winwood? Perhaps related.

Ice Cube,  Noddy Holder of Slade and others were born on this day.

April 19th was Alexis Korner's birthday which we barely missed. Rory Gallagher has a song for him so Alexis must have been good.

He's considered the founding father of British blues; some of the best musicians of the breed served apprenticeships in his
early Blues Incorporated groups, including four Rolling Stones (Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Brian Jones, Charlie Watts),
practically every member of the Graham Bond Organisation (including Bond, multi-saxophonist Dick Heckstall-Smith, and
future Cream rhythm section Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker), British harp legend Cyril Davies (died of leukemia in 1964),
Long John Baldry, Rod Stewart, and Jimmy Page before he became a studio hound.

@EasyAce

That was a fine version of "Let the good times roll" or "Good Times" by Sam Cooke that you posted that time by... was that Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes? Or who was that by? I think that was the version. One of the best versions I've heard if I have the song correct. Good rock 'n' roll.  It really was excellent, heard of the band but never much of their music.

I like Lennon's music,  "Imagine" so-so and it has been played a lot. I don't deny it's a great song and others may disagree.  Per the article below, she gets credit but only as a co-writer. Sounds like there is a financial angle.

Yoko Ono to receive songwriting credit on John Lennon's 'Imagine'
Published June 15, 2017
Fox News

Yoko Ono is lined up to receive a songwriting credit on her late husband John Lennon’s 1971 hit “Imagine” 46 years after it was originally written.

Variety reported that at the annual meeting of the National Music Publishers Association in New York on Wednesday, the 84-year-old and her son received the organization’s new Centennial Song Award for the beloved single.

NMPA CEO David Israelite also showed a video from 1980 where the Beatle said Ono deserved a songwriting credit for “Imagine” because of her influence and inspiration on it.

Israelite announced that in accordance with Lennon’s wish, Ono will be added to the song as a co-writer. However, he told the magazine that while the process is already under way, there may be some opposition to the move.

Jail time derailed this singing groups career; also, again, I'm no expert but they seemed to be an example of West Coast Doo Wop; I don't think they produced that many songs but I've always liked this song a lot. For some people, it's sort of the theme of these daily threads.  I saw they had other videos for them as well, "Fever" and more.

I do have his album, not bad. Some language on it may be R-rated so I'll leave the video out. Not really my cup of tea but he did record important music imo.
