Catnip Repels Mosquitoes More Effectively Than DEET

    Researchers report that nepetalactone, the essential oil in catnip that gives the plant its characteristic odor, is about ten times more effective at repelling mosquitoes than DEET — the compound used in most commercial insect repellents.

I am on blood thinners, so I can't drink, but perhaps we can get a few volunteers. Roll them in catnip and hand them a few beers. 

Personally a few of these studies are pure bunk. A few years ago they claimed the same thing about lemon eucalyptus oil and wife bought a bunch of it. It didn't work worth a hoot, but DEET continues to work for me. I buy it off season in high concentration formulas and use it sparingly.

Me too.  Used it in Florida when the kids were growing up.  Daughter was sensitive to DEET.

They didn't think this one through, did they. Sure, it may work against mosquitos, but the side effects!!

I used to use this back when it was 100% DEET...




Now I go with this...



...because it's more for ticks than mosquitoes!
