This stuff goes back to the Moros and Juramentados committing parrang sabbil. (turn of the last century). This spurred development of the 1911 Colt, although it was not used in that insurrection. (The Colt .45 Model 1902 and DA Model 1909 revolvers were, the 1911 didn't arrive until 1913)
