Lol.....funny..... but.... I think the whole "MENSA" thing is highly over-rated. For instance... I once knew a woman that claimed to be MENSA (ie she was bragging about her high IQ). She was a Walmart/Bush-hating leftie, of course....hehe. How bright was she? She was so bright... that she almost burned the house down while attempting to multi-task..... surf the net while cooking a steak. It was a hoot. But superior-minded lefties usually (always) are.
Yes, MENSA is highly overrated. Back then I was new to bulletin boards and "echos" and at the time I had a lot of respect for MENSA having heard that it was an organization of very intelligent people. I went to the MENSA echo hoping to read some interesting discussions in science or philosophy, and people were talking about the silliest things. I remember this one guy talking about how much fun "Improv" was.
I posted a message that said that I had come there expecting to see brilliant discussions on high level intellectual topics, and all I could see was mundane social trivia being traded back and forth. I then asked a question that stirred up a hornet's nest. I said: "Where are all the smart people? "
Then they all lit into me with both feet. "How dare you come in here and suggest we aren't the "smart people"? Why i've been a member of MENSA for umpity ump years, and I'm absolutely brilliant! " And various iterations of that same message from everyone else. For such smart people, they sure were paranoid about being thought mundane.
And yes, in the scope of time I spent arguing with them, (a year or so) I realized that they were a collection of people with highly inflated egos, but not much real brainpower backing them up. It became nothing but an endless snark fest, and I thought it was a lot of fun.
