Manchester attack: Police 'not sharing information with US'

Police investigating the Manchester Arena bomb attack have stopped sharing information with the US after leaks to the media, the BBC understands.

UK officials were outraged when photos appearing to show debris from the attack appeared in the New York Times.

It came after the name of bomber Salman Abedi was leaked to US media 24 hours after the attack, which killed 22 - including children - and injured 64.

Theresa May is to raise concerns with Donald Trump at a Nato meeting later.

Greater Manchester Police hopes to resume normal intelligence relationships - a two-way flow of information - soon but is currently "furious", the BBC understands.

Said last night - the Carter protocols will be put into effect over the leaks. While regional police forces here are quasi independant, they'd have to have Home Office permission to stop intel sharing.

Thread title updated to reflect new development.

Breaks my heart but not unexpected and fully justified!

"So do I," said Gandalf, "and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us."

So.... who leaked the name to CBS and NBC?   Whoever it is apparently wanted to tip off the other members of the terrorist network.  At least, that's the logical assumption here... considering that the leaker is probably a rabid leftist.

Oh, come on.  Even on TBR, people were salivating for the name.

If Obama was still in the White House, nobody would have cared.   They just are doing this to go after Trump.

(Comment I made in another thread)

They try to blame Trump for everything...

"U.K. authorities believe the information was leaked by U.S. law enforcement—not the White House"

“I’m afraid it just reminds me exactly of what happened after 7/7 when the U.S. published a complete picture of the way the bombs in 7/7 had been made up,” Ian Blair, who was head of London’s Metropolitan Police during the London attacks of July 7, 2005, told the BBC. “It’s a different world in which the U.S. operate in terms of how they publish things and this is a very grievous breach but I’m afraid it’s the same as before.”

Home Secretary Amber Rudd has said she is irritated with the US for releasing information about the Manchester bomber before UK police would have liked.
Ms Rudd said the British had wanted to control the flow of information to "keep the element of surprise".

Ms. Rudd, meet sumthin' called The First Amendment.

It's one of the reasons we dumped you Brits in the first place.

After more than two centuries, perhaps you ought to learn something about it?

Aside:
If you DID, and if you HAD a First Amendment over there, you might not be in the downward spiral that you're in right now.

If they go for a First then they might as well have a Second.
