We try to eat like people did pre-WWII. Butter not margarine, whole milk not skim, and honey not sugar (and very little at that). Other gen-x parents call me "that mom," but my kids aren't obese or ADHD. Well, number one is on the high functioning end of the spectrum, but for us that's even more of a reason to eat real food.
I am getting there - Probably not as good at it as y'all... Me being without a woman, this is all new to me.
But yeah, first thing to go once I was on my own was the margarine. and the blue or white cap milk. Only red-cap for me, if I can't get it straight out of the cow... which I prefer. Still probably too much sugar, but only normally in my sweet tea (*which I know is a lot, but way better than soda pop)...
High consumption of fermented foods (really good, can't say enough), high consumption of fresh and home canned foods. Almost *no processed 'box' foods at all. I was still using Kraft Mac for a while there... till I figured out how to make the real thing - Man, what a difference!
And that's the thing - I eat really good, tasty food, and it is by comparison super cheap! Take all that processed crap out of your system, and the cost is stunningly cheaper. Especially with a garden, and hunting, fishing, and foraging! And the extra time it takes in cooking is glorious! The anticipation alone makes everything taste so much better. Sitting there smelling it on the stove, the whole house filling up with delicious smells...
Our food system is killing us, and pacifying us. I couldn't tell folks any better than to eat what God put here, and leave the rest alone!
