Quote
House Oversight Committee Chairman Jason Chaffetz said he wants James Comey to testify on Capitol Hill, but he's having problems getting in touch with the fired ex-FBI head.

'His telephone number changed since he left government service,' Chaffetz told ABC's George Stephanopoulos Thursday morning. 'So I used to be able to text and call him. I do believe he has my telephone number, but I do hope to chat with him.'

Chaffetz said to comply with House rules he's already sent a date for Comey to come testify, next Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. EST.

Good grief Chaffetz.....you are irrelevant. You have all made yourselves this way during obama.  Testifying before the house....what has that accomplished in let us just say in  the past 4 years?  Benghazi...yeah you got to the bottom of that. IRS scandal?  You are all piles. Corrupt piles.

Subpoena time.
He already said he would pull that trigger. It would formalize the whole thing.

Chaffetz is far from corrupt, he is one of the few who actually take action, not just talk. Don't be manipulated by the headline, he has already said he would issue a subpoena for Comey if he had to.

What good would that do? Plus Chaffetz is leaving the house in June.

Why the heck do they have to call him? JUST SUBPOENA HIM !! Chaffetz doesn't have to do it himself, OTHER REPUBLICANS SHOULD BE ABLE TO DO IT EVEN IF HE's GONE AND THEY SHOULD !

DAMN, we're wasting time on this nothingburger when we should be focusing on more substantial things.

From Healthcare, to Taxes to this "Russian Collusion" issue., Republicans have shown themselves to be nothing but  wimps.

At least the Dems are UNIFIED even when they are wrong on the issues.

A subpoena puts legal weight behind the request to testify. If one doesn't respond to a subpoena, they can be held in contempt of congress and potentially fined or even imprisoned.

HA HA HA, Thanks for the laugh. Both Lois Lerner and Eric Holder were held in contempt of Congress. What did that get them?

Lerner is retired with a fat 6 figure yearly pension and Eric Holder held on till he resigned and made sure that his replacement is just as partisan.

Let's face it -- being held in contempt of Congress is NOTHING. Who's going to be afraid if all you get is a letter telling you you've been a bad boy.?

The informal request (courtesy request) fills in the gap. To issue a subpoena the entire committee has to approve it. By Comey turning down the courtesy request, that gives Chaffetz the case for a subpoena, which he said he would do.

Getting a head start on the coming exodus of politicians in DC:

You can avoid reality, but you cannot avoid the consequences of avoiding reality.

The last time someone was imprisoned directly by congress for contempt was 1935. The last time a case was referred to the Department of Justice was just six months ago with Bryan Pagliano. That was Obama's DOJ so nothing was done then and Trump said he wouldn't continue to pursue the Hillary email issue. I am not sure about fines, I beleve that was around 96. Usually it is referred to the DOJ instead and a bigger case is built.
