Bill aims to base traffic fines on income in California
« on: May 18, 2017, 04:47:16 am »
A new bill moving through the California Senate would base the amount of a traffic violation fine on a person's income.

Switzerland does that. That's how they dished out the world's first million dollar speeding ticket.

So in other words, illegals with no "reported" income will be let go with no fines...ok, got it.
Throwing our allegiances to political parties in the long run gave away our liberty.

"Bill aims to base traffic fines on income in California"

I'd challenge this in federal court as a violation of the 14th Amendment's "equal protection" clause.

I dislike the 14th, but use it where it can be used...

I think it's local for things like towing and impounds...

Finland, Home of the $103,000 Speeding Ticket
Most of Scandinavia determines fines based on income. Could such a system work in the U.S.?

Politicians are always looking for new ways to tax the surfs. In the U.K. the government once taxed the number of windows a person had on their home. When you drive through Britain, it is common to see older homes with bricked up windows. This was the reaction to the window tax. Rather than paying the tax, the Britons simply bricked them up.

BTW, the Britons referred to this tax colloquially as the 'sunshine tax'. They complained that the government was essentially taxing sunshine. My comments in this regard fall squarely into the bracket of, "Don't give them ideas." California may be next.

You cannot "COEXIST" with people who want to kill you.
If they kill their own with no conscience, there is nothing to stop them from killing you.

People get fined for having an income already.

Here in Austin they're making noises about doing the exact same thing.

To penalize/reward individuals based upon income ventures into a whole new territory at the local level.  Yes, the Feds already do this (primarily with the income tax) but we haven't really seen this before locally.  I'm not counting public school taxes which is a whole other can worms.

The reason this is new territory is because it addresses behavior.

For a speeding ticket, for example, we might have a poor person paying no fine but me paying $200 for the exact same behavior.  Unequal treatment under the law.  And we all know how these things work, today traffic violations but tomorrow other legal violations.  What about robbery?  Pick any crime you choose and you'll find it on the liberal shopping list.

But don't worry they say, we have federal courts that serve as checks and balances to local authorities who may be overstepping their bounds.  These are the same federal courts packed by Obama, aided and abetted by the Republican members of Congress, that we're talking about.  Anyone want to take a quick look at their track record the past few years?

Fascism comes in all shapes and sizes.
