The Memo: GOP anger at Trump is building
By Niall Stanage - 05/17/17 06:00 AM EDT

Republican unease with President Trump is building, and if it snowballs, the White House could suffer significant political damage.

Asked about the mood among conservatives, GOP strategist Rick Tyler replied with a single word: “Fatigue.”

The pattern of negative headlines continued late Tuesday afternoon, when The New York Times reported that Trump earlier this year asked then-FBI Director James Comey, whom he would later fire, to shut down the bureau’s investigation into the president’s ousted national security adviser, Michael Flynn.

He may just end up a lame duck President if it continues.

He's already a lame duck. Too many self inflicted wounds.

His supporters can deny it all they want but they'll end up circling a single wagon in a losing fight.

I think the GOP should be more worried about the anger building up against them from their voters. *****rollingeyes*****

Problem is that most GOPers won with higher percentages than with what Trump won with.

Not to discount Mr. Tyler's "fatigue", but he is paid by MSNBC.

I've been tired of Trump's antics for at least 18 months. He's done a few good things, but his penchant for being on the attack 24/7 has a shelf life.

Given the steadfastness of Trump supporters here and elsewhere, I think his favorable ratings will ever dip below 35%. His 20 million friends on Twitter will see to that...Trump's doing exactly what they want him to do, and their energy is feeding each other.

A very salient point.

I think that any fatigue, if it really exists, is probably aimed at and due to the ongoing and constant media assault as the idiot left 'acts up and acts out' against their recent election loss.  Implying it is due to anything else is just part of that same media assault against Trump, IMO.

Another salient point...lol. You're both right.

2018 would really be a blood bath, except the typical voter can't stand the Democrats, either, and the average Democrat is usually too lazy to vote in the midterms.

That may or not be true but if Trump voters decide that the GOP has not supported him, then they will stay home the next election and the GOP will deserve to lose.

Yeah and if reluctant Trumpers (like me) stay home in 2020? Or leave the President field blank or vote third party?

Trump has made his mistakes. Yes they are tiresome. So is the endless and breathless froth of the media's hyperbolic reporting of nothing burgers. So is the feckless Keystone cop routine the GOP is doing in Congress, and the psycho nutter tinfoil act from the Dems and the Left.
The Republic is lost.

I will worry about 2020 when we get there.  Lots of things can happen before then.  Nobody expected the Donald to be President 4 years before he was elected either.  Trump still won even with NTs not voting for him. *****rollingeyes*****

The first and most important worry should be the mid terms.

Losing either the House or the Senate will cause more immediate damage.

Here's the problem .... the GOP has always been angry at Trump.  They are now living through the fruits of their refusal to support him, even after being inaugurated.

Bye-bye GOP  :seeya:  Hello socialism.

If the GOPe is angry, it is because TRump is still in office. They do not care if they lose our votes. They haven't cared for decades. They have lied to us for decades as well. When was the last time GOPe ever voted for something that helped this country?

They need to protect their money train and Trump doesn't go with that theme.

No wall

Hillary not in jail

PP funded to the end of the FY

Obamacare still in place

No tax cuts

etc etc etc

Nah...can't imagine why the rank and file members of the GOP would be angry at him.

They aren't angry because he's still in office...they're angry because he hasn't fulfilled one promise yet he said he'd do.

We got Jeff Sessions.

But he's going to have to dig in his heels on at Least ONE of the above issues and take the media heat for it.

The MSM is going to despise and accuse him of being the devil no matter What he does.

It's not as if there's anything he can do to get them to back off.

The Dems have turned this into the Battle of the Bulge.

He needs to learn how to defeat them, not sell us out to them.

Put away the twitter nonsense and study Reagan's public Addresses.

My 'Viking Hunter' High Adventure Alternate History Series is FREE, ALL 3 volumes, at most ebook retailers including Ibooks, Barnes and Noble, Kobo, and more.

In Vol 2 the weapons come out in a winner take all war on two fronts.

Vol 3 opens with the rigged murder trial of the villain in a Viking Court under Viking law to set the stage for the hero's own murder trial.

I agree 100%

He's got to understand that this is what the left does to Republicans...it's been that way forever.  They make money off of what they are doing right now....it's the nature of the beast. He's got to not go silent like W did and get pummeled...and he's got to quit knee jerking and tweeting about every perceived slight against him...being President requires thicker skin than he seems to posses right now.

Fatigue?  Fatigue?

I'll show them some fatigue.  They need to stop worrying about their own butts and get off of them and defend Trump.

I'm not asking that they defend him over any wrongdoings but these latest media scandals are not about wrongdoings, they are about accusations of wrongdoings and wild speculations.

Put away the twitter nonsense and study Reagan's public Addresses.

Other stuff in post is absolutely spot on - agree with you 100%.

Quoted bit though - no. Not Reagan. Trump could not do Reagan's style. He'd be so obviously faking it'd put everyone off - even his stronger supporters.

I suggest a different speaker for style tips. A very good speaker, convincing as hell, moving, yet with the same down to earth way that Trump has. Bill Clinton.
