Border Wall Finalists To Build Prototypes In July

FRONTERAS By  Michel Marizco May 16, 2017  http://fronterasdesk.org/content/10674/border-wall-finalists-build-prototypes-july

Finalists for a proposed wall along the U.S. Mexico border advanced last week, setting the stage for testing of different wall prototypes to begin this summer.

The United States announced it’s settled on finalists for a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border.

One Arizona company in Scottsdale has said it’s a finalist.

But another, Sundt Construction of Tucson, which had a hand in building 100 miles of the current border barrier in the early 2000s said it never bid on this new venture.

Proposals have ranged from forms of social protest, such as a string of hammocks along the entire border, to one Texas firm’s idea of erecting a plexiglass barrier along the border that can’t be seen through from Mexico.

The selection process is fairly secretive but companies picked as finalists will build prototypes of their wall ideas in San Diego this July.

"Dive Brief:

U.S. Customs and Border Patrol has selected an estimated 20 finalists to design prototypes for the U.S.–Mexico border wall, but the agency hasn't released their names, according to Bloomberg.
The agency said it plans to notify the contractors in the coming days, and contracts for the prototypes are expected to be in the $200,000 to $500,000 range."

If I understand the sealed bid process correctly, the job is awarded to whoever donated the most money to the RNC.

At least that's been the pattern the past 8 years.
