Trump's fearlessness is a good thing - up to a point. But he's forgetting the position he's putting his allies in. He needs to recognize that placing members of one's own party into no-win situations with their voters back home is a sure way to lose crucial support.
Trump shows everyday that he's no lawyer and no politician. His interview with Lester Holt was brazen in its honesty - he was going to fire Comey all along, and sought the assistant AG's memo as a fig leaf. He changes direction on a dime, on "promises" big and small, and just shrugs - hey, that's me.
I can see why his supporters love him - he's everything a conventional lawyer/politician is not. But he still has to remember who his allies are, and not force them into untenable positions. Remember that Nixon was doomed when Republican politicians like Howard Baker decided they'd had enough grief defending him.
