President Trump is considering at least four people with law enforcement experience to replace James Comey as FBI director, according to a new Bloomberg report.

Among those being considered is House Benghazi Committee chairman Rep. Trey Gowdy (R., S.C.), a former federal prosecutor, and former Bush administration Justice Department official Alice Fisher, according to a White House official. Former Republican Rep. Mike Rogers and former New York City Police Commissioner Ray Kelly are also on Trump's list.

The list is likely to grow, according to the official:

Updated: Cornyn to interview for FBI chief on Saturday

Written by Todd J. Gillman, Washington Bureau

WASHINGTON — The FBI needs a new director. Texas Sen. John Cornyn is a former judge who may be itching for a new opportunity, and he likely would sail through a confirmation process that might trip up other contenders.

Does that make for a match? Cornyn will interview for the post on Saturday with Attorney General Jeff Sessions and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein.

A White House aide confirmed Friday afternoon that Cornyn is one of 11 people under consideration to replace James Comey, the FBI chief fired Tuesday night by President Donald Trump amid an ongoing investigation of Russian meddling in the U.S. election last year.

By evening, multiple news outlets were reporting that Cornyn was one of four candidates scheduled for a job interview on Saturday, along with acting FBI director Andrew McCabe; Alice Fisher, a former assistant attorney general who previously led the Justice Department's criminal division; and Judge Michael Garcia of the New York State Court of Appeals.

It would be good policy, to promote from the FBI ranks. That way people can hope to move up, instead of the top positions going to career politicians.

If it has to be from outside, better a top state, county or city law enforcement official, again not a politician.

Whatever the criteria, I would elevate the type that would NOT let islamic terrorists slip through our hands, like Comey did.

I would normally agree with that, @truth_seeker , but not this time around.

As political junkies, we all recognize the WILLFUL damage done to the country.  But also government agencies.

He demonized 'POLICE' and we all witnessed the political corruption reaching into our DOJ, FBI and CIA.   Let alone the Dept. of State.

We cannot take the chance promoting from within.

I vote for Trey Gowdy, only because he loves being a hero.    Like any self-respecting Realtor.

Cornyn would be okay... I think he's honest and relatively conservative but a bit of a squish.  AND it would get him out of the Senate and Texas could elect another Ted Cruz type.
Against stupidity, the Gods themselves contend in vain.

Gowdy would be good at the Dept of Used Car Sales, but FBI Director....not so much.
