Boston Doctor Sent Frantic Text Message Before He and His Fiancée Were Killed in Their Luxury Penthouse

In the last moments of his life, Dr. Richard Field managed to send a text message to a friend, pleading for help, PEOPLE has confirmed. Alarmed, the friend contacted police, who rushed to Field’s luxury penthouse in Boston.

But they were too late. By the time police arrived, Field and his fiancée, Dr. Lina Bolanos, were dead. Police say that both doctors’ hands were bound  and there was blood everywhere. The couple’s throats had been slit, and the killer allegedly wrote “a message of retribution” on the wall.

Police encountered the suspect at the scene, and a brief gunfight ensued, with the suspect shooting at officers, according to a police statement. The suspect, later identified as Bampumim Teixeira, was injured. “The suspect was struck by the officers and after a violent struggle, placed in custody and transported to an area hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries as a result of gunshot wounds,” the Boston Police

Police were still trying to determine the motive behind the murders, but they believe Teixeira, 30, and the doctors knew each other. Teixeira’s ex-girlfriend told the Globe that he had sent her a mysterious text message and called her on April 22.

She said Teixeira told her that she would never see him again and that he did not plan to live long. He also told her he would never hurt anyone.

Teixeira was born in Guinea-Bissau and raised in Cape Verde, the Boston Globe reported. He moved to the Boston area when he was in his 20s, but started to live in shelters after having a falling out with his aunt.

He pleaded guilty to two bank robberies – one in 2014 and the other in 2016. In both instances, he passed the bank teller a note saying he had a weapon but never brandished one.

Two Boston doctors found slain over the weekend in the penthouse of a luxury condo most likely knew their killer, police say.

The bodies of Drs. Lina Bolanos and Richard Field were found Friday night by cops at the Macallen Building in South Boston.

Officials on Sunday revealed that Field was able to send a text message from his apartment to a friend, begging them for help and prompting the person to call 911, according to the Boston Globe.

After slitting the couple’s throats, the killer reportedly scrawled “a message of retribution” on the wall. The message was not made public. Boston police have not provided a motive in the case.

Cops had gone to the building on a report of a man with a gun. Police Commissioner William B. Evans said the suspect — Bampumim Teixeira, 30 — opened fire when officers confronted him at the door. Police, who weren’t hurt, fired back and hit him several times. ... More at NY Post

The perp only received nine months in jail for two bank robberies.  There are folks still in jail after several years just for smoking pot and yet this guy gets off that easily?  This is yet another example of how screwed up our "justice" system is.  The perp is black, of course.

Well considering his attacker had a gun his options were limited.    Yes a person trained can disarm an armed attacker its usually not a good idea for someone who hasnt had any training.  You are quite likely to escalate the situation.  He probably chose to try and talk his way out.

Sure, we want to know who the perp was but let's not forget about the victims.

I know back some time, the '80s, our little town paper had a report on a DWI accident, there on page 1, the picture of the drunk driver next to his poor victims, 2 women, who the drunk driver had a head-on collision with. Though, it is news, I thought it looked terrible to put the perpetrator of this terrible act next to those 2 innocents.

Yeah, and my point still stands..... ie that there are folks still in jail for minor drug charges where no weapon was used.... yet this guy gets only nine months for TWO bank robberies.  Was the liberal justice system rewarding his stupidity via leniency?

If memory serves, didn't Obama commute the sentences of THOUSANDS of felons if they were black?  If he was in there for bank robbery - is that not a federal offense?  If so, was this perp one of those released by Obama's commutation?

I think the link shows a 1 year sentence, 9 months served, released this spring. Seems no Obama connection.

The story I posted above indicates they probably knew the guy. I can't imagine what the connection might have been, though.
