Our school lunches were bad enough in the 1960s and 70s. I can't imagine how atrocious they might be now. There only good thing I remember was macaroni and cheese on Fridays, which was excellent, rich and filling, and certainly off limits today; I can imagine our postmodern school administrators going into paroxysms of panic, offering group counseling sessions and reeducation training for a kitchen staff were it ever accidentally offered to our little snowflakes.
We had something way back that they called "Salisbury Steak". It wasn't from Salisbury and it wasn't steak. Instead, it appeared to be factory manufactured out of some kind of bread meal, fiber and meat of an unidentifiable source, perhaps from Churchill Downs or Aqueduct Park.
