Democrats throw millions, Hollywood punch into Georgia House race

Democrats are pumping millions into the Georgia congressional election set for Tuesday, hoping a 30-year-old political upstart who's attracting star power can deliver a rebuke to President Trump and help the party reclaim lost momentum.

Hollywood has even come out for the off-cycle vote, with actor Samuel L. Jackson cutting a radio ad urging voters to flip the seat once held by Republican Tom Price, who is now Trump's health secretary.

“Vote for the Democratic Party. Stop Donald Trump, a man who encourages racial and religious discrimination and sexism,” Jackson says in the ad, casting the race as a chance to undermine the Republican president and throwing in "Pulp Fiction" references for good measure. “We have to channel the great vengeance and fury we have for this administration into votes at the ballot box.”

GA Dem candidate Ossoff can’t vote for himself — because he doesn’t live in district!

“Mr. Ossoff, is it true that you cannot vote for yourself?” host Alisyn Camerota asked the Democratic candidate.

After an awkward silence, Ossoff responded, “Well, I grew up in this district.

“I grew up in this community. No one knew there was going to be an election coming,” he continued.

“I’ve been living with Alicia, my girlfriend of 12 years down by Emory University where she’s a full-time medical student.

“And as soon as she concludes her medical training, I’ll be 10 minutes back up the street into the district where I grew up, but I want to support her and her career and do right by her,” Ossoff said.

After pressing him on the fact that he doesn’t live in the district, Ossoff again refused to acknowledge it, though at one point he referred to it as “there.”

“I grew up in this district, I grew up in this community. It’s my home. My family is still there,” he said.

He's dropped to 54% with 32% of the precincts reporting.  If the trend continues he's in a runoff.

With this kind of showing, he could peel off some of the middle and win the runoff.  None of the Republican candidates had significant support.  Trump only won by a few votes after Romney (and every other GOP) carried it by 20+.
