Alabama Senate passes unprecedented church police bill
« on: April 12, 2017, 02:40:41 pm »
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) – The Alabama Senate has voted to allow a church to form its own police force.

Lawmakers on Tuesday voted 24-4 to allow Briarwood Presbyterian Church in Birmingham to establish a law enforcement department.

The church says it needs its own police officers to keep its school as well as its more than 4,000 person congregation safe.

Critics of the bill argue that a police department that reports to church officials could be used to cover up crimes.

The state has given a few private universities the authority to have a police force, but never a church or non-school entity.

Follow up to an earlier thread discussing the proposed legislation. I'll cross link if I ever find the damned thing.

Church Police.  Very handy if there's a dead bishop on the landing.
And when they behead your own people in the wars which are to come, then you will know what this was all about.

Or if Miss Marple and Jessica Fletcher decide to move into the area.

Interesting.

Our local "Six Flags Over Jesus" in the Louisville area uses off-duty LEOs to direct traffic when their Saturday night and Sunday morning services dismiss.  I don't know for sure, but my best guess is that they also have off-duty officers inside the building, as well.

I have it on good authority that the phone company in Ohio was allowed to have their own police force.

They do certain things well, but I personally prefer a smaller church where I actually see the same people each week rather than sitting next to strangers every Sunday morning.

That reminds me.  I need to book my annual pilgrimage to The Holy Land Experience Theme Park in Orlando, Florida

In the city that is home to the House of Mouse it is nice that we have Holy Land Experience to complete the  holy trinity of family friendly attractions in Orlando. Disney World has Mickey, Universal Studios has Harry Potter; the Holy Land has Jesus.  Hallelujah.

If a state doesn't ban concealed carry, church police forces should be unnecessary.
