Methinks you don't understand what "rhetoric" is, yourself, from your reply, @XenaLee. That makes it odd for you to imply @geronl isn't bright. It's not like he answered your question--he commented on it.  Try looking in the mirror.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rhetorical_question

Well... he can't be all that bright (contrarians rarely are)....since....all he did was to state the effing obvious.....

and for that matter, neither can you....

since neither of you detected the obvious sarcasm.  Guess I'll have to make it a point to never forget to post a sarc tag around here.

Next time Kim Jong launches a missile might be interesting to knock it out of the sky...(over international waters of course)
maybe more likely that our missiles will be directed at the underground bunker the NK leader is hiding in with his underage pleasure boys.

While it is apparent Trump does not lack a spine, I sure hope he is getting good advice.  I'm all for decisive action as long as it is in the best interest of the US and Israel.  I hope this is not amateur hour.....  Because this might provoke the fat crazy kid into more action.  We better be ready for the fallout.
am I reading into your comments you prefer the spineless lethargy of DT's predecessor who talked but did nothing to discourage the little dictator?

Hitting any target in the North opens the door for him to hit the South...far to risky. Intercepting a launch over international waters is as far as we are likely to push him unless we are prepared to resume hostilities on the Korean peninsula

That's not possible..there is a statue, IIRC, that prevents the US from assassinating foreign leaders but more practically such an action would almost certainly lead any successor to attack the South. As much as outsiders may not understand it there are millions of North Koreans who support the crazy nut and will willingly die for him and their country....

Trump, having to play from the hand that Obama has dealt him in terms of military readiness and strength - has got to be understood by the world to be one of bluffing rather than ace's high.

Especially given all the intel that Hildabeast and Obama's State Department have let out into the wilderness.

Trump might be good at putting on a poker face, but if China an Russia know what cards we actually have (like some of our military being at pre-WW-I levels) - all this military posturing at this time, might become bad ju-ju.

(LEAD) With aircraft carrier, U.S. sending message to N. Korea: S. Korea

(ATTN: CHANGES photos; ADDS China's response at 3 paras from bottom)

SEOUL, April 10 (Yonhap) -- The South Korean military confirmed Monday the United States is sending a nuclear-powered aircraft carrier to waters near the Korean Peninsula again due to concerns about North Korea's provocations.

----------------------
and here are those paragraphs
-----------------------------

In reaction to the strike group's deployment near the Korean Peninsula, China called on all sides to exercise restraint.

Asked about its position on the deployment, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said at a regular press briefing that China is closely watching developments on the Korean Peninsula.

"Under the current circumstances, all parties concerned should exercise restraint and refrain from doing anything that will aggravate the situation in the region," the spokeswoman said.

Not a statement @don-o @EC  --- but there's this report from last evening:

China, South Korea discuss more sanctions on North Korea amid talk of Trump action
Reuters, Apr 10, 2017, By Ju-min Park and Nobuhiro Kubo | SEOUL/TOKYO

China and South Korea agreed on Monday to slap tougher sanctions on North Korea if it carries out nuclear or long-range missile tests, a senior official in Seoul said, as a U.S. Navy strike group headed to the region in a show of force.

North Korea marks several major anniversaries this month and often marks the occasions with major tests of military hardware.

The possibility of U.S. military action against North Korea in response to such tests gained traction following last week's strikes against Syria. Previously, Washington has leaned toward sanctions and pressure to deter North Korea, but comments from U.S. President Donald Trump's top aides at the weekend suggest that position may be hardening.

However, South Korea's chief nuclear envoy Kim Hong-kyun said there was no mention of any military option in his talks with China's Special Representative for Korean Peninsula Affairs, Wu Dawei. The two also did not discuss any possible strike against the North by the Trump administration, he said.

"Both sides agreed that despite the international community’s warnings, if North Korea makes strategic provocations such as a nuclear test or an ICBM launch, there should be strong additional measures in accordance with U.N. security council resolutions," Kim told reporters.

Not a statement @don-o @EC  --- but there's this report from last evening:

If the Fat Kid launches, shoot it down.
If he pops off a nuke test, China must make good on its sanction threat. And we are kinda locked into a permanent presence there.

It's very close to the flash point.

Donald Trump puts Australia on North Korean rocket alert
Daily Telegraph/AU, Apr 10, 2017

AUSTRALIA and its allies have been put on standby for the possibility of the United States shooting down test rockets launched by North Korea.

Intelligence sources told The Daily Telegraph that North Korea may launch ballistic missile test flights around the birthday of Kim II-sung, the founder of the rogue nation, on April 15 or even sooner.

The United States, which has a fleet headed to the Korean Peninsula, is understood to have notified Australia that it is fully prepared to shoot down these rockets. The Australian-United States joint facility at Pine Gap monitors North Korean missile launches, and is on standby.
