A Trump voter is shocked that her husband has now been deported to Mexico.

The family, who had supported the US President despite his campaign’s disturbing rhetoric on immigration, said they thought ‘good people’ would be fine.

Roberto Beristain, 43, moved to the US from Mexico around 20 years ago when he was in his early 20s. He had initially travelled over to visit a relative, but decided to stay on without the proper immigration documents.

Soon afterwards he met his wife Helen, and the two settled down in Indiana and started a family.

Beristain owned a popular steak house, had a social security number, a driving licence and permission to work.

However, when he went to renew his permission to work this year, his status was rejected.

According to reports, when the family went to Canada in 2000 US border officials had noticed that he was in the country without documentation.

At the time, they gave him a voluntary deportation order and told him he needed to leave the country within 60 days. However, he decided to stay in the US with his then-pregnant wife.

Now, under President Trump’s migration crackdown, this two-decade-old deportation order has caught up with him.
