It's the appearance of giving the Dems a win...and Repubs backing down.

The Dems haven't won anything @mystery-ak.  He's temporarily "stepping away" to address a bogus ethics charge.  If Nunes stays as the head of the investigation, the Democrats would have continued to make him the story.

The investigation continues, with Nunes' help---only now the Democrats have removed their needed distraction.  The dems were too smart by half.

I don't see it as Repubs backing down.  The committee is still going.  Nunes would still be there if he hadn't kept info. from the committee and gone to the White House with it, and canceled meetings.   I'm not surprised it was taken to the ethics committee.

I just saw a discussion with a panel of guests about this on Fox @mystery-ak --- and didn't hear this.  The opinion I heard was that at best this is a short term win for the Dems.

Hard to speculate.  Could be "good" news, in fact.  If the preliminary findings are "No Findings", there could be howls from the left of a biased investigation.  Nunes is reasonably smart.  He could be recusing himself to deflate the challenge.  Could be. 

That said, they'll never quit.  Will they?

This wasn't a response to a demand @mystery-ak --- this is a response to the filing of an ethics charge, which Nunes is obligated to address.  This temporarily takes Rice out of the headlines ... but she's back front and center within 12 hours, without interruption.

The Dems fight with a vengeance.  I hope the Senate is watching this and chooses the Constitutional option for the confirmation of Gorsuch.  Well, more than hope, it's more like pray, actually.
