This arrived yesterday, a fascinating meld between jazz and Eastern (mostly Indian) music . . .

Alice Coltrane, Journey in Satchidananda

Also arriving yesterday: the album collection of this man's complete Excello singles, a collection named
for the R&B hit Elvis Presley liked enough to cover on one of his earliest Sun Records recordings:

I bought the special box set of Leadbelly's complete Smithsonian Folkways recordings. If you're a fan
and you don't have that set, you should get it, it's worth every dollar.

Thanks friend! I used my '59 reissue on the "Midtown" and "Downtown" segments and the Lou Pallo model
on the "Uptown" segment.

I used to have an album saving in my youtube favorites titled "Memphis Soul Classics". Had original cuts from Sam and Dave,King Curtis,Staple Singers,Albert King, etc, etc, etc. Can't find it anywhere now for the life of me.

If any of you have it,can you post it to you tube?

Got what I think is an interesting story about Canned Heat

When they were just breaking out they were doing some shows in Houston and staying with some friends in an Apartment Complex in Houston, Lazy Oaks, one of them got drunk and was peein in the Courtyard, my second wife (then @ 5 yo) saw this, told her Mom who called the cops, they arrested the guy and the band had to cancel their shows for a few days till he got out of jail.
   Karma
The one time she called the cops on me they took her to jail instead.

That's an interesting story on Canned Heat; they were hard partyers. Now, with the internet, we can hear a lot of music for free while in the day, one had to buy it usually or listen to a friend's.

Captain Beyond isn't too bad,  I listened to this the other day.  I always saw their records and they looked interesting.

Merle died last year from complications of pneumonia, on this day, his Birthday, he would've been 80 today.

They don't get enough of the credit they deserve for helping re-birth the blues. (In more ways than one: co-founder
Alan Wilson not only helped re-discover Son House, he taught House how to play his old songs all over again and
recorded with House for House's comeback album on Columbia in 1965.)
