The man who lived in the Maryland house leveled on Friday by a powerful explosion died of suicide, officials say.
Steven Martin Beck, 61, died in the house that exploded on the 11000 block of Ashley Drive in Rockville, Montgomery County police said Monday afternoon.
The house was in foreclosure and was set to be auctioned later Friday.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore "ruled the manner of Beck’s death to be suicide and the cause of death a gunshot wound."
The remains of a dog were found near Beck. The dog died after being shot, officials determined. The remains were found in the basement.
The investigation into the cause of the blast felt from miles away is ongoing.
Goldstein said Saturday is still too early to know whether the explosion was intentional or accidental. The fire department is working with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to determine the cause of the explosion.
Teams of fire and explosive investigators were at the house Saturday sifting through the piles of rubble. Debris sprayed across nearby homes and the explosion could be felt from 4 miles away.
