Nice tribute.BTW 9 marines were accidentally left on Makin after the raid. I cannot imagine what must've been going through their minds when they realized Carlson and the rest had gone.
Of the remaining eleven Marines missing in action, nine[6] were inadvertently left behind or returned to the island during the night withdrawal. They were subsequently captured, moved to Kwajalein Atoll, and executed by Japanese forces. Kōsō Abe was subsequently tried and executed by the Allies for the murder of the nine Marines.[7] The remaining two Marines missing in action have never been accounted for.[8]https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Makin_Island_raid
