Man dies charging iPhone while in the bath
« on: March 18, 2017, 01:34:36 pm »
A man was electrocuted as he charged his mobile phone while in the bath, an inquest has heard.

Richard Bull, 32, died when his iPhone charger made contact with the water at his home in Ealing, west London.

A coroner ruled his death was accidental and plans to send a report to Apple about taking action to prevent future deaths.

Safety campaigners have warned about the dangers of charging mobiles near water following the inquest.

Mr Bull is believed to have plugged his charger into an extension cord from the hallway and rested it on his chest while using the phone, the Sun reports.

Moron probably thought that because the charger output was low voltage he was safe, if he thought at all that is. An iPhone charger puts out what, 2.4 amps? All it takes is 200 milliamps to have a really bad heart day.

Only obligatory on new homes. Old homes - hell, some of our fuses are still ones you replace the fuse wire when it blows.
Every plug also contains a cartridge fuse, so his extension cord will have had that bit of protection. Problem is, when the fuse in a plug goes, you just replace the cartridge, and most people just stick a 13A fuse in, rather than thinking of what the fuse rating should be.

Edited for clarity.
