Trump doesn’t shake hands with Merkel during photo op

President Trump did not extend his hand to shake German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s in a Friday Oval Office photo op, a courtesy he usually extends to foreign leaders visiting the white House.

Trump sat next to Merkel in front of a fireplace for the brief photo-op.

“Very good,” Trump said to assembled reporters when asked about what the two leaders discussed. “Lots of things.”

“Very good, thanks,” Merkel said in German.

Is there a technicality here?

"In the oval office..."; not outside, not the rose garden.

I'm pretty sure, NY Post is not thought of as being liberal, that's the Daily News; I don't know how the Post is described really, I thought it leaned conservative.

I don't know, those pictures are outside so I haven't seen the Post article proved technically wrong here.

"... in the Oval Office..." , those pictures are not in the Oval Office still.

Probably her idea.  :shrug:

She really doesn't like being touched at all - search back and she's had issues with GWB, Sarkozy, Cameron, Blair, and the Worm on that - so one handshake on meeting is more than enough for her.

It wasn't the rose garden @TomSea -- the pictures above:  taken when the President went out and greeted Merkel at her car---a very gracious move by POTUS.

She's also running for reelection as the "Anti-Trump"....this probably explains why she didn't extend her hand.

There seems to be a custom of actually shaking hands in the Oval Office with Heads of State, which the Saudi Prince above was not in that particular case.

In the case of the Saudi Arabian prince, he isn't even a head of state; so, now that we find out more about this custom, he wouldn't actually count I gather.
