I have been in the healthcare insurance biz for 30+ years.

This bill is crap. Health Savings Accts do not lower cost. Going across state lines won't help either-we had that pre ACA and HC cost kept going up 10-15% per year.

The ONLY way to lower cost is require doctors and hospitals to publish their prices. so people can shop around. Lasic surgery started out at $3000 eyeball now down to $99 with a cupin.

Right now providers will not tell you what their fees will be.

@Norm Lenhart

@Jazzhead is literally the only Republican I've seen pleased with this plan.  Literally.  I can't find another one.

That's because Jazzy is a self-identifying Conservative Liberal Socialist dressed up in Republican clothing who thinks he is fooling us all on this board about who and what he really is.

Your knowledge regarding the purpose of insurance and the spreading of risk is abysmal.

The purpose of insurance is to satisfy my individual need.  Not your need.  Not the need of the collective.  But MY need.  The spreading of risk is not relevant.  It is a consumer decision by me and me alone.

The government should have no role in this.  They should not be able to dictate what coverage I should have to get, how much it should cost, or who I have to purchase it from.  It should be my choice to purchase whatever from whomever I damn well please.

So again, Big Brother:

GET THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT THE HELL OUT OF THE INSURANCE MARKET !!!

I don't need them fixing a damn thing.  I just need them to get the hell out of the way and let the invisible hand settle it.

IOW, he's pragmatic.    And more than worth, a listen.

No he's pro Obamacare...pro gay "marriage"...pro abortion and anti Second Amendment.

Nothing pragmatic about that.

A lot of us have heard what he has to say and it's not Conservative.

Only if one is a liberal and wants to hear socialist dogma. Otherwise no.

Pragmatism is another word for 'unprincipled'.

One more thing....if you are 60 years old and have maternity coverage it does not  raise your rate. Only so many people are going to use maternity and it is built into the plan.

Insurers found out way before ACA that standardized plans save them  money just as auto manuf found out 40 years ago that if you allow customers to  pick and choose every single options it actually raises the price of manufacturing. That is why your car comes with power windows whether you want it or not.

So Liberal Socialism is now regarded as 'pragmatic'???

That would go a great way towards explaining why so many self identifying "conservatives" embrace Leftist ideals.

And you lack the honor to admit that you falsely accused me of lying.

You have no honor yourself there Jazzy, having engaged in spreading deliberate falsehoods and outright boldfaced lies to attempt to paint yourself a victim on numerous threads that the membership itself told you that you were lying about and you persisted in repeating your lies and doubling down on them further by extrapolating statements to mean what they never said.

The ONLY way to lower cost is require doctors and hospitals to publish their prices. so people can shop around. Lasic surgery started out at $3000 eyeball now down to $99 with a cupin.

Most Lasik surgery (as well as most plastic surgery such as breast implants) are not covered by insurance, which means that there are a hell of a lot more consumers (i.e. individuals), reaping the benefits of a competitive market, instead of just a small handful of consumers (i.e. insurance companies) accepting monopolistic pricing that they can pass off to others as a cartel.

I like your idea of publishing prices so that individuals can bargain, and bypass insurance companies who force collusion to fix prices.

insurance isn't auto manufacturing. Money is fungible. It's rather easy to throw all costs in a pot and swear X isn't paid from that pot.

It is my understanding that this is a first of three phases.

The first phase will be used as a transition phase, with the focus on not letting the poor and destitute fall through the cracks.

Meaning, we've got a helluva chance to drive a wooden stake through the Vampire called the Democrat Party, if we don't provide a visual to the MSM implying the GOP turned their backs and lied to the American People when President Trump said "ALL Americans..."

I knew there would be some things he would sanction that would not appeal to me.   This is one of them, but I understand the thinking.

Upset that for at least SIX effing years they've had a chance to prepare for this day.   What's so complicated about crossing State lines to attract customers?

Why is the Republican Party terrified of market forces?

The RINO's never intended to repeal...if that were the case it would have been done and they would have stood behind Cruz's proposal back in 2015.  Both Paul and Cruz have now laid out plans.  IMHO, the combination of both would be a much better solution. They both have suggested tax credits and health savings plans, creating a nationwide marketplace and Cruz's plan went further to unattach health care from the workplace and one's employer.
