Are boomer still the largest group, as far as numbers go?
If so, that may have more to do with this than we are letting on.

Also, I've heard younger people say that relationship too difficult to maintain, like everything else nowadays, too many rules and regulations.
We'd flirt with the opposite sex when we were younger, and now, some of the stuff we presumed was fairly harmless, even innocent, is now considered harassment.
I am not so sure it is lack of "want to" as much as it is fear of retribution.
"To heck with it, I'll stay single, and out of court and/or jail, won't lose my job, etc...", says some of them I've met.
