We're gonna have to agree to disagree on this one.  Break the rules...take short cuts pay the consequences.  If your shoddy police work and crossing the line results in someone who should be locked up going free.  And yes those kinds of cops do get punished...real life PD work isn't like The Shield.

Punished to a reasonable extent for abusing someone's civil rights?   Do they really get punished to the extent they deserved?

Meanwhile a murderer gets to murder again.  Isn't this society getting punished for the police man's "shoddy"  work?   Did society deserve to get punished for his wrongdoing?

And I am of the firm belief that there are certain things in the world of the military and/or intelligence services...that the average citizen doesn't need to know about.  They need that secrecy and shadowy gray area to get things done in order to keep this country safe.

Do some of those trusted to do this abuse that power...most certainly...does that mean they are all bad...no.

And it doesn't give certain self identified "do gooders" the right to expose highly classified documents...assuming that is the case her...to Euroweenie asshats like Julian Assange.

And with this I agree.

Ah yes.   Do I smell book burning?   Only certain opinions are to be allowed?
And only those facts authorized by Bannon and co. are to be published.

And what's to stop the next Democrat President from taking down Fox News, or the Daily Caller?

There is a lack of long range vision and understanding of double edged swords in this blood lust to see a President "take down" a media outlet.

No matter how vile they may be in our eyes...they are no less free to publish what they want than any Conservative news organization.

There's thing called the 1st Amendment that protects them all.

It would be nice if you provided some context for your comment.   I for one have no idea where you are coming from with this comment.

It isn't hard to understand but we're dealing with dishonest unethical people who create their own justifications for what they do.

I don't suppose you are familiar with the "Harlem Globe Trotters" and their opposition team "the Washington Generals"?

It would function contrary to the interests of the existing propaganda empire  if their minor league opposition was completely suppressed.   So long as they are ineffective,  it doesn't bother the trillion dollar system to let them rant in their own little corners of the internet.

As a matter of fact,  it is absolutely necessary to create the illusion that the purpose of the first amendment isn't suppressed.

A lot of contradictory statements come out of the right about the vast media conspiracy. In one breath they say the left wing media is dying, in the next they claim the liberal media has control.

All these years of blaming the media for every problem have made them an easy cop out of a target. Not everyone on the left is receptive of the right's message and there are a lot of really crappy salesmen on the right.

At the end of the day the media is powerless and the fault lands at the feet of the people.

Those two statements are not mutually exclusive.  Both are true.

All these years of blaming the media for every problem have made them an easy cop out of a target.

Except it happens to be true.   Well,  maybe not every problem,  but a whole lot of very significant problems are rightly laid at the "media's"  feet.

Not everyone on the left is receptive of the right's message and there are a lot of really crappy salesmen on the right.

Both of those statements are also true,   but they convey only a tiny part of the big picture.    There are a lot of people on the left who would be persuaded if all news and entertainment was not under the control of people with strictly leftist world views.

As regards the salesman,   the left has a trillion dollar broadcasting infrastructure.   We have blogs and pod casts.    It's a lot easier selling from Television than it is by print ads.

At the end of the day the media is powerless and the fault lands at the feet of the people.

That is about the most incorrect thing i've read all day.   Examples of where the media steered the nation's destiny are too numerous to mention.    The most recent examples of media power are Bill Clinton and Barack Obama,  who owe their elections to the fact that the media did not honestly report on them,  but allied with them to win the elections.

Had the media attacked them in the manner they do Republicans,  neither man would have won,  and the destiny of the world would have been improved.

Duh.  I didn't mean literally take down as in burn the building to the ground or ban the paper.

I meant greatly lessen the influence of the New York Times.  They've had way too much influence for years just because of their name and long ago reputation.

I think it is happening.  I see really nasty responses on Facebook to posts from the New York Times.  Of course, this is anecdotal but ....

He or she would never need to.

All they need do is wait - those on the right eat their own often enough to be predictable.

I hope you aren't suggesting that at this stage of the game Fox News has any more credibility than the NY Times.

Amen to that!  NO credibility left.

Clinton Aide Squeals: ‘Everyone Knew’ About Obama’s Illegal Wiretapping

What should be a watergateish event will be buried under fluff by the MSM, thus no coverage  Hell,  didn't the NYT already doctor up their web report?
I display the Confederate Battle Flag in honor of my great great great grandfathers who spilled blood at Wilson's Creek and Shiloh.  5 others served in the WBTS with honor too.
