Alicia Castro, who was the Argentine ambassador to the UK for four years from 2012, warned: “It is very worrying that the Argentinean government does not protest [over increased militarisation], so the UK responds by increasing militarisation.”

The 67-year-old diplomat, who was speaking on the Argentine radio station Radio 10, added: "There are two problems, the first one is that the government does not complain against militarisation and the second one is that while Argentina is giving in everything, we are also promising Britain that they will be able to exploit the natural resources of our 40 million citizens.”

Ms Castro also claimed that the disputed islands in the South Atlantic were amongst the most heavily militarised territories in the world, saying that there were 2,000 British troops stationed there to defend a population of less than 3,000 civilians.

I'm just guessing but the Argentinians would probably prefer Russia to China on the base.
