Then-Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.) spoke twice last year with Russia’s ambassador to the United States, Justice Department officials said, encounters he did not disclose when asked about possible contacts between members of President Trump’s campaign and representatives of Moscow during Sessions’s confirmation hearing to become attorney general.

Well he was on the US armed services committee. The question is did he lie and why?

The sound bite I heard had him say was something to the effect "I did not talk to Russian government officials about the campaign". Key words in bold. If that's what he said he may not have lied but was talking like a lawyer.

Right. Too premature to say he lied. I like Sessions, but this does not make him look good IMO, even if he didn't outright lie. As a DOJ it's pretty crucial he not have black marks like this on his record.

This is nothing more than the left trying to get rid of yet another one of President Trump's cabinet picks. The left's weapon is to associate anyone and everyone in Trump's administration with Putin and Russia with the goal of tarnishing their record and reputation so much that they are forced to step down.  The left is continuing to pick apart President Trump's administration so that time is spent on battling their false accusations instead of spending time on focusing on heading this country in a different direction. From the onset the left has tried to delegitimize this presidency and will continue to do so.  The left hates Sessions as he has the authority to drain the swamp; they'd much rather have someone like Holder or Lynch continuing to feed the cesspool that has swallowed D.C.

Quite frankly, I'm sick of those that side with the left and continue to feed their cesspool by posting their crap in this forum and I'm sick of those in the media who pick apart President Trump by reporting on such ridiculous things as the President is now wearing a better tailored suit or Melania shouldn't have worn sequinned clothing to a Congressional speech.  Give me a break; that isn't journalism or anything newsworthy; it's simply being spiteful and petty.
Romans 12:16-21

Live in harmony with one another; do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly, do not claim to be wiser than you are.  Do not repay anyone evil for evil, but take thought for what is noble in the sight of all.  If it is possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all…do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

Black mark?

Have a bite.

But thanks for posting so it can be properly demolished.

Did they ever investigate Teddy Kennedy for contacting the KGB back in the 80s, you know, back when Russia REALLY was our enemy?

Top Republicans call on Sessions to recuse himself from Russia investigation

https://www.washingtonpost.com/powerpost/top-gop-lawmaker-calls-on-sessions-to-recuse-himself-from-russia-investigation/2017/03/02/148c07ac-ff46-11e6-8ebe-6e0dbe4f2bca_story.html?tid=sm_tw&utm_term=.0598d641b355

Top Republicans said Thursday that Attorney General Jeff Sessions should recuse himself from investigations of whether Russia interfered in the presidential 2016 election at the Justice Department and FBI.

House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy said during an appearance on MSNBC Thursday morning that Sessions should bow too maintain “the trust of the American people.”

Minutes later, House Oversight and Government Reform committee chairman Jason Chaffetz joined McCarthy’s call, tweeting that “AG Sessions should clarify his testimony and recuse himself.”

Aww c'mon man. Its just an isolated incident like Paul Manafort was just an isolated incident, Carter Page was an isolated incident, Mike Flynn was an isolated incident, Changing the GOP platform to be more Russia friendly was an isolated incident, and Trump ignoring Russia spy ships off our coasts and planes buzzing our ships are isolated incidents. You can't draw any conclusions from all those completely unrelated isolated incidents.

I don't know what the hell is going on but Russia  must have a lot of dirt on the right people in DC for the GOP to prefer to suckle on this political shotgun barrel rather than save themselves.

The NeverTrumpers always side with the left (Globalist socialists) everyday we get a dozen bash Trump threads.

The rats want Sessions gone because they know Sessions will enforce the law, in particular voter ID laws and immigration laws. With those two laws enforced the rats are toast. Also the rats want a partisan special prosecutor to investigate Trump/Russia. If that happens Trump will be forced to defend himself at the expense of his American First agenda.

The left is anti-American. NeverTrumpers go along with the left because they are perfectly happy to see Trump (and America) fail just so they can say "We told you so". Hard to say which group is more despicable.

@DB

I have the exchange-- or one of them---onscreen now.  Franken asked what Sessions would do if anyone affiliated with the campaign communicated with the Russian government.  Sessions replied, "I'm not aware of any of those activities.  I have been called a surrogate a time or two, and I did not have communications with the Russians."

CNN showed a clip of Sessions walking to a car; he told reporters he would recuse himself "whenever it's appropriate, no doubt about that."

POTUS needs to order the declassification of all these leaked docs that the Dems are cherry picking.

Would have thought that lessons had been learned about "high tech lynchings"

@dfwgator

No, and that should have happened.

But it has zero to do with the simple basic fact that Sessions should have been up front.  Isn't that right?  Or is it different when Repubs do it?

@CatherineofAragon

Those are the words Session said at the hearing, and also what he said while walking to a car.  I'm surprised, in that hearing, he didn't say he met with the ambassador twice as a senator which had nothing to do with the campaign.  I believe that is true as it is fairly unbelievable he would talk with the Russian about their involvement in Trump's election.  He may have to recuse himself on that investigation to get this behind him.
