JACKSON, MI - Has Jackson officially been restored to what many never doubted is its rightful spot as the birthplace of the Republican Party?

Possibly, according to a tweet from Michigan native and Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna Romney McDaniel.

The picture on the wall of the RNC headquarters in McDaniel's tweet is of Jackson's 1854 "under the oaks" gathering, long touted as the event at which the Republican Party was born.

McDaniel's tweet was backed up by another from Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette.

Personally I've always seen Ripon Wisconsin as the place where the GOP was conceived and Jackson as the birthplace.

Give me a break. Everyone knows the birthplace of the GOP was in the back seat of a rusty slant 6 Valiant at a Drive In Grindhouse double feature.

still a big deal in 1910.

The monument is in the hood today but the neighborhood has improved a lot as the population has trended hispanic. Its still no place to be at night but the houses and yards look far better now.

Its at the corner of West Franklin and 2nd street if anyone wants to google it.

Shouldn't we be seeing pictures of the Klan in those shots?
