In the Trump administration, the buck apparently stops anywhere but the Oval Office.

President Trump on Tuesday blamed the military for the death of Chief Petty Officer William “Ryan” Owens, a Navy SEAL who was killed in a Jan. 29 botched raid on Islamic terrorists in Yemen.

During an interview on “Fox ‘n’ Friends,” the commander-in-chief repeatedly said “they” — meaning the military — were at fault for the death of Owens, whose dad, Bill, refused to appear with Trump when his son’s body was returned to the US.

“This was a mission that was started before I got here. This was something they wanted to do,” Trump said.

“They came to me, they explained what they wanted to do. The generals — who are very respected, my generals are the most respected that we’ve had in many decades, I believe. And they lost Ryan,” he added.

The correct pronoun is "we lost Ryan" not "they".

These unforced errors drive me crazy.

I hear your criticism.  For me, he should have emphasized the leaks that led to the terrorist group in Yemen being ready for the raid.  Down to the women with AK 47s shooting at our troops-- think of the morale impact.

The generals probably came to him gung ho after Obama had been holding back.  If one is a SEAL, one could get seriously killed ( as opposed to getting casually killed)-- SEAL dad should know that. 

We have embeds right in Mosul calling in local airstrikes with the Iraqis taking most of the risk.  Hope Trump continues to deploy our military in a smart way.

I said it during the election. Trump will never ever take responsibility for the deaths that WILL happen on his watch.

1) Deny raid requests from Generals like Obama
2) Use more, overwhelming force and destroy intelligence in this scenario
3) Employ feigned attacks to expose Obama leaks

What would you have the president do?

I've read articles suggesting some Obama burrowed worms sent word to the group to expect a raid.   Yes,  I would have emphasized the possibility that Obama worms leaking caused his death.

I had not seen this report before running across this thread.   If this thread topic is accurate,  and I have no reason to think it isn't,  this does sound like Trump didn't do a very good job responding to it.

He should take extreme caution when dealing with military deaths under his command.   Of all the things he shouldn't be flippant about,  this is the main thing.
