RIV is about the nicest person on this board, so she should be President.

Putting aside your snide  :bs: @Emjay    --- Everyone I know fits your definition of good people.  I wouldn't want any of them running the country.

A good man does not always make a good leader.  Just ask the survivors of Bush's ill-conceived foray into Iraq.  Just take a look at what has filled Saddam's void.

A good man does not guarantee a leader strong enough to match a belligerent press and strengthen the brand of the political party he leads in the process.  Just ask the beneficiary:  Barack Obama.

So was John McCain ... and I want him in a straightjacket.   So is my nephew ... and I don't want him in the WH either.

I'd like you to stop insulting me and the best way for you to do this is to educate yourself:  Google the Bush clan's grandfather and the "other" Bush boys.

Now you're just reaching for straws .... and once again, you have missed.   Hopefully, you'll tire of it.

Oh, please.  My BS was not at all snide.  I thought it was quite lovely.  Your BS, on the other hand, is deplorable.
Against stupidity, the Gods themselves contend in vain.

Just heard his soundbyte on talk radio and he basically said we need the media to hold people 'like him' accountable.  Like.... when Dan Rather held him accountable for having been AWOL...?   Bush is another sellout.  I voted for him twice.   He let us down, just as his father did.

@XenaLee

That's pretty much where I am, too.  I was a political naif in 2000---just starting to get interested in politics.   I thought GW was a solid conservative and I was happy to vote for him at the time, and again in 2004.  I've learned since then, however.  There really isn't any denying that he's an open borders guy...man, I hated the way he cozied up to Vincenze Fox.  And then, of course, there he was in 2008---"I've abandoned free market principles to save the free market."

I do appreciate W's work with veterans, and I'm glad he was in the Oval Office on 9-11 instead of, God help us, Al Gore.  But I'm not a fan.

During the campaign, he remarked that he just doesn't like Ted Cruz.  Well, of course not.  Cruz was solicitor general of Texas when Bush, as president, stepped in and tried to overturn the death penalty for Jose Medellin.  Bush did so at the request of the "World Court."

Medellin had been convicted for the rapes and murders of two young girls in Texas.  He was a member of the gang which raped the girls every way a woman can BE raped for over an hour.  After that, one of the girls was strangled with a belt, which broke, so they finished the job with shoelaces.  The other girl was also choked with the laces.  One of them had her teeth knocked out before she died, and both of them had their necks stomped to make sure they were dead.

Cruz argued before the Supreme Court that the president had no right to intervene, and won.

Before I read about that case, I always thought Bush was a decent man, but what kind of man tries to save such a person in order to please some foreigners?  I mean, seriously, what am I supposed to think?  Can you imagine how the parents of those girls must have felt at the time?

As for the Bush women, they're all pro-abortion, which is enough said, IMO.  I have no use for that.

I hate to sound so harsh, but.... truth is.... I am FTFU with being let down and yes, fooled, by these power-seeking politicians.   And if/when any of them goes back on their word, lets us down or veers left, I will call any and all of them out on it.  This latest BS from Bush about the same media that literally crucified him for nine freaking years is the final straw.  Like I said.... he is dead to me now.

Absolutely! And I blame a lot of that on Karl Rove and Karen Hughes!

IMHO, when your commander gets you into unwinable wars that goes on for decades, he has not done right by you.

Obama was a level of bottom feeding garbage not seen before. On the broad scope of things though, Bush stank.

I guess you blame Truman for getting us into an "endless war" in Europe and Asia too since we're still in both places 70+ years later huh?

What you and some of the bitter clingers and antiwar.com types can bitch and moan about that all you want to...but it's childish and short sighted.

When you compare the treatment of the military to how we were treated under Clinton and Obama...it's really petty on your part and some others to to use the moronic arguments about Iraq and Afghanistan to try and not give the guy ANY credit.

He did more for the overall morale and well being of the troops and their families since Reagan.

Oh and BTW...Iraq was a win no matter how you looked at it until Obama came along and gave it back to the terrorists...same with Afghanistan.

There is no such thing as an unwinnable war!  It's just a matter of being willing to do what needs to be done to win it!

Yes, I think Bush let us down.
Although George H W Bush did contribute to Cruz during his senate campaign, Karl Rove tried to get Cruz to give the money back, as the GOP was backing Dewhurst at the time.
Then W came out last year, during the primaries, and said "I never liked the guy" when referring to Cruz, and I think that was due to the Medellin case. (How dare he, right?). Cruz did the right thing in opposing Bush. I don't think the GOP (at the time) forgave him for that.
I don't believe W has yet.

Those two were more covert about how they stabbed us in the back.  The political climate wasn't to where either could be as overt in their loathing of the military as Obama was able to be.

Clinton hated us and did what he could at the time to show it.  I've talked to officers who were new LT's under Carter and they talk about not having funds for fuel or parts to get tanks out of the motor pool to train.

Nope, I get what you mean.  Trust me.

I mean, as much as I love and adore my husband, I call him out on things (and vice versa).  We all do the same with our spouses, I'm sure.  I'm definitely not going to shrink from criticism of a politician if I think he deserves it.

I think you're right, and it's a shame.  Anyone with a moral compass should have understood Medellin needed to die.  To this day, I can't imagine what W was thinking.

You called Trump the worse of names, figured you for a liberal democrat. Pretty inconsistent.

And who calls other names at saying something not a quarter as bad.

Never had any issue/problem/fight with @Right_in_Virginia since the joint opened back in May 2009.

In addition to the several other forums 'we've' evolved from , before TBR...with many of the old gang here.
