"I wish it need not have happened in my time," said Frodo.

"So do I," said Gandalf, "and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us."

Part of the problem appears that some have yet to recognize it as a war that we're in.  That, and the fact that they are allowing their dislike of Trump to blind them to the obvious reality that we need to unite and band together against this radical left faction..... if we have any hope of winning this undeclared war.  The left is counting on our disunity and our in-fighting to help them defeat us.  Let's not give them what they want.

I'm sure many here would not have been fans of FDR.  But you bet your sweet bippy we would have been 100% behind him to defeat Hitler and Tojo.

You are asking for people to retain two or more competing ideas in mind; a tough thing to expect from many folks these days.

People are crowded together, bombarded with continuous audio/visual messages. Education is centered on feeling "nice" and "good."

FDR led during difficult times. I often wonder if the typical American today would fight, or surrender?

Liberal Roosevelt worked with conservative Churchill. Churchill is one of my favorite people in history.

Roosevelt was also against public unions, so? Maybe it was his economic programs that were seen as liberal, he also had those camps not only for the Japanese but some Italians too I understand.

As a domestic President, I had a lot of problems with FDR, but as a war-time leader, he was aces.   Sure you can nitpick some of things he did during the war with the benefit of hindsight,  but I don't think I would have had anyone else being POTUS as that time.

I feel fortunate to have grown up when my parents and grandparents had experienced the depression and WWII.

They were intelligent educated people, who served in the military, built aircraft, observed rationing and blackouts, etc.

My mother's side were Republicans, who openly spoke well of FDR. Amazing--two competing ideas.

His domestic policy was terrible but he was a good wartime leader.

Right.  And .... not being a fan of Democrats (to put it mildly).... I wouldn't have been a supporter of JFK either, but I would have supported his efforts against Communist Cuba.   Which, come to think of it, Obama unraveled with one fell swoop of his damned pen.

What's the story here my brother?

http://www.nationalreview.com/corner/427059/paris-curfew-andrew-c-mccarthy

Is the author in error?

Nope. A curfew was applied to Paris the day after the Bataclan concert hall attacks and maintained for over a month while the French AT squads did their thing.

Good summary and timeline here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-34818994

Thanks!  I note that the source of that article is NOT a member of the US media!  That seems to happen a lot when subjects of this nature are under discussion.

Kuenssberg studied history at the University of Edinburgh, followed by a journalism course at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C.,[9] where she worked on an NBC News political programme.

NBC and BBC.  Went to Georgetown U in DC.   So far so Liberal.

Wonder if University of Edinburgh is liberal when it comes to 'journalism'

In January 2016, Kuenssberg was involved in arranging for the Labour MP Stephen Doughty to publicly announce his resignation as a shadow foreign office minister on Daily Politics. The incident was the subject of an official complaint from Seumas Milne, the Labour Party's director of communications, which was rejected by Robbie Gibb, the BBC's head of live political programmes.[17]

She seems to be keen on meddling in internal Labour party politics?  Wonder how she feels about Nick Clegg?

In January 2017 the BBC Trust ruled that a report in November 2015 by Kuenssberg broke the broadcaster’s impartiality and accuracy guidelines. A viewer had complained about her item, which featured an interview with Jeremy Corbyn on the BBC News at Six which was edited to give the incorrect impression that Corbyn disagreed with the use of firearms by police in incidents such as that month's terrorist attacks in Paris. His purported answer to a question as broadcast in the report was in fact his reply to a different (unbroadcast) question, not specifically about that terrorist attack.[21]

The BBC Trust rules that Kuenssberg put out FAKE NEWS.  But the BBC sends her to cover Prime Minister May in Washington?

It is target rich environment Bigun.  It is a disgrace that we are not seeing more coverage of the carnage in France.

Probably why Le Pen is doing so well in the polls.

The role of BBC journalists should be to present the news, not to manufacture the news, nor to just make it up as they go along. Still, despite the evidence that she concocted a fake news hit on Jeremy Corbyn, Kuenssberg looks safe in her job as BBC political editor publicly funded Tory mouthpiece.

Anyone who pays attention will know that the BBC have previous form at chopping and changing the sequence of video clips in order to create highly misleading narratives. The most famous example being the reversal of the footage from the Orgreave miners' protest to make it look like the miners attacked the police, when the reality was that mounted police launched a brutal and unprovoked attack on the miners. Luckily for the BBC the Tories decided not to hold a public inquiry into Orgreave, meaning that the BBC's dodgy conduct on that day wasn't brought back into focus.

If the BBC were truly a Tory funded mouthpiece.....  Lets do away with it altogether!!!

Jeremy Corbyn might even go along with the vote to get rid of the BBC .  Privatize it!

Lots of recent BBC controversies .

This is one of the more amusing ones, although the cadence of Bogus news coming out of the BBC is increasing over the last 17 years.

2011: Top Gear comments on Mexico[edit]
On 30 January 2011, the BBC broadcast an episode of its motoring TV show Top Gear during which presenters referred to Mexicans as both "lazy" and "feckless" and Mexican food as "refried sick".[98] The broadcast caused many complaints in Mexico, including in newspapers and websites, while a motion of censure was considered in the Mexican senate and the BBC Spanish-language website BBC Mundo received protests.[98] Richard Hammond, one of the presenters, expressed doubt that there would be any complaints against them as, he alleged, the Mexican ambassador would be asleep.[98]

British MPs described the comments as "ignorant, derogatory and racist" and called on the BBC to say it was sorry.[98] Mexico's ambassador in London also requested that the BBC say it was sorry for the "offensive, xenophobic and humiliating" comments.[98][99] The legal firm who previously pursued the media in the Shilpa Shetty case involving comments in Big Brother have engaged clients for the case.[100]
