Tennis: Germans outraged as U.S. plays Nazi version of anthem

German tennis has responded with outrage after the United States Tennis Association (USTA) made the embarrassing error of playing the Nazi-era version of Germany's national anthem during a Fed Cup tie in Hawaii.

The version played included the first stanza, beginning "Deutschland, Deutschland uber alles, uber alles in der Welt" which was used as Nazi propaganda.

To be fair, it looks like the main difference is that one opening stanza. I wonder why the USTA had old time lyrics to the anthem?

 :facepalm2:

It would be like playing the Russian anthem with the old Soviet-era lyrics.

Since muslims were staunch supporters of Hitler and islam is going to take  over Germany before long (Merkel wants to bring another 12 million immigrants), someone thought maybe it wouldn't offend muslims?

It could have been worse, they could have played The Horst Wessel Song.

Borat anthem stuns Kazakh gold medallist in Kuwait

Kazakhstan's shooting team has been left stunned after a comedy national anthem from the film Borat was played at a medal ceremony at championships in Kuwait instead of the real one.

The team asked for an apology and the medal ceremony was later rerun.

The team's coach told Kazakh media the organisers had downloaded the parody from the internet by mistake.

The song was produced by UK comedian Sacha Baron Cohen for the film, which shows Kazakhs as backward and bigoted.

I'm sorry, but that's hilarious.

blaming the whole US for someone bungling the music is a bit rash
