Sears, Kmart drop 31 Trump Home items from their online shops
« on: February 11, 2017, 08:31:41 pm »
Quote
Major U.S. retailers Sears and Kmart this week removed 31 Trump Home items from their online product offerings to focus on more profitable items, a spokesman said on Saturday.

The decision follows retailer Nordstrom Inc's announcement this week it had decided to stop carrying Ivanka Trump's apparel because of declining sales, prompting President Donald Trump to take to Twitter to defend his daughter. White House spokesman Sean Spicer characterized the Nordstrom move as a "direct attack" on the president's policies. ....

None of this will impact the average, middle-class person that voted for Trump.  They probably couldn't afford to spend money on these items anyway.  And most of the fat-cat well-to-do liberals will boycott the items anyway, even if they're still in the stores.  Ivanka may need to cloak her items under another name, in future, in order to sell them.  That's just the reality of the political environment.   She's already rich, so I really don't feel one way or the other about this.  No 'que tragique' from me....but am really getting tired of hearing about it.

I'm sorry.  I still can't stand Trump (he hasn't changed).....but this is just dumb.

1. Sticks and bricks retail business, is being replaced with online business.

2. #nevertrump has been consistently wrong, for 18 months.

3. Sears/Kmart are failing businesses.

4. Nordies is closing retail locations.

5. Most consumers ignore this boycott crap.

This is posted in economics/business instead of politics for a reason. We've had many threads discussing the troubles with Sears/KMart.

Sears/Kmart have been in a death spiral for years. They just had to announce $1 billion in cuts because of another dismal holiday.

I would not be surprised if they are simply piggy backing on the Nordstrom news articles, hoping for the optics of a 'push-back' in order to lay blame of their losses on that instead of accepting that it is mismanagement.

With their track record, it should come as a surprise they continue making dumb decisions.

It must be about time for gender ambiguous restrooms, if they don't already have them.

Not like Sears/KMart have been getting good business advice in the past decade, so this is just business as usual?

I'm not in business, nor do I know about the economy in depth, but why should Sears/KMart get political when they're financially dying?  ESPECIALLY when the clientele they sell to most likely do not oppose Trump.

It seems like a fiscally stupid decision, all things considered.....

Except that Trump supports men in women's bathrooms, so how does that jibe with a decision to block Trump's merchandise?

Good for them for making a business decision to focus on more profitable items

I obviously am not a mind reader, but do you think that's really their motivation?

I dunno, what do you suppose Trump meant when he cheered 10,000 layoffs from Macy's?

Things aren’t looking great for Ivanka Trump’s brand.

The latest retail giants to dump the Ivanka Trump brand are Sears and Kmart. On Saturday a spokesperson for Sears Holdings Corporation said the two chains would no longer sell Trump Home items in their online stores.

“As part of the company’s initiative to optimize its online product assortment, we constantly refine that assortment to focus on our most profitable items … Amid that streamlining effort, 31 Trump Home items were among the items removed online this week,” spokesperson Brian Hanover announced.

They were on life support before!  This should finish them off!

To them it's probably not a dumb decision, Sears and Kmart have been depending more and more on Hispanic patronage over the years, and no I'm not saying illegals. I would bet that most others stopped shopping at the two retailers anyway, why else the death spiral, so if they lose the very few Trump supporters that still might shop there, no biggie.

Sure seems to me someone pointed out that the left would go after the Trump brand and try to gut his businesses whether he won or not. Seems like that happened back around the nomination. Darn if I can think who it was that said that. Might have been Stevie Wonder.

Nope, it was someone else.

Sears and Kmart are on death's door, I don't think they'd dump it if it was profitable.

I dunno. The K-Mart death spiral started when Rosie ODonnel jumped Tom Selleck on her program (when he was there to plug a movie) about making a NRA ad and went on an anti-gun tirade for the books. Gun owners told K-Mart (who was the largest seller of firearms in the US at the time) to dump Rosie as a spokesperson or they'd shop elsewhere.
We ended up going elsewhere, and in the nearest town, as in many others, the parking lot went from fairly full to deserted. It hurt, and they haven't recovered.
With Craftsman tools being available elsewhere, Sears becomes moot, too.

If this isn't strictly an accounting decision, playing politics is a mistake. (Ask JC Penney's about two mommy ads, or Target about restroom policy, too).
