With respect (and I do mean that!):

What someone else might have done has no bearing on what is actually being done by a completely different person.

When Trump does something good, I applaud it. I mean actual good, not the metaphorical equivalent of not crapping his pants in public. He's a 70 year old man - it's expected he doesn't crap himself in public.

When he does something stupid, boneheaded, or unconstitutional, I call him on it. Irrespective of what Clinton would have done or what the Worm did. They don't matter. They are not in the hot seat, Trump is.

Of course, you are right but watching the left implode with rage and self-righteousness bordering on insanity has been so much fun, I give Trump points for that.

You didn't mention exactly what Trump has done that is stupid or boneheaded or unconstitutional.  I'll admit some of his tweets are a little stupid, but his tweets reflect his personality not his policy.

I'll continue to defend the man I once despised as long as he continues to do the right thing in terms of what's good for America.

If you're going to criticize him, you might consider doing it on the basis of what he's actually done wrong and not on his personality.

If everyone had Trump's character the world and nation would be a much worse place. I'll never respect him. He has made a few good decisions.

But the underlying man is a man of poor character and you wouldn't want you kids emulating him. But he is who they will see on TV, day in and day out.

My difference with Trump are almost 100% style. But it does make a difference and it shows what poor character he has.

Style over substance?  Not good.  Why don't you wait until he does something that affects the country negatively to criticize?

Obama was smooth and he did irreparable harm.

Trump is not smooth but his decisions so far have been excellent.

Let's step back from our personal embarrassment and give him a chance until he actually does something that's bad for the country.

Totally agree, emjay.  Trump has a LOT of personality warts and character flaws.  But still... not nearly as much or as bad as Obama is/was....and not anywhere near what Hillary Rodham Clinton has.   We still dodged a bullet there.  And I, for one, am grateful for that, at least.

No matter what the future may hold with Trump in the WH, it still could have always been worse.  And I'm loving his actions thus far re: enforcement of immigration laws and attempts to keep more illegals and terrorists from flooding in.  His tweets are annoying but not critical to our survival.  Wait to criticize until he does something that IS critical or bad for the country.   I haven't seen it yet.

My problem with Trump is that his behavior reminds me a lot of somebody with whom I was personally acquainted.  The same behavior of spouting off in ways that are intended to make people upset; love of being The Guy In Charge; the desire to be known as the Hero of the Moment.  No need to explain or get buy-in -- he's right and he knows it, so just do whatever it is that he thinks ought to be done.

The problem is that while narcissistic tendencies can be useful in achieving big things, they tend to be corrupting -- especially if there's no moderating influence.

Unfortunately, narcissists tend to surround themselves with people who will support whatever they do.  And they will not just shut out, but often attempt to destroy, anyone who dissents.

So long as things are going OK then there's no apparent problem.    But narcissists over-reach, and things usually start to go wrong.  The inner circle gets smaller and the echo chamber gets louder, and the behavior gets more and more irrational.

We saw that already with Obama.

Perhaps somebody can emerge to become Trump's moderating influence, to keep him focused.  We can only hope.  But I fear Trump's been in his tight little bubble for too long, for anybody to make a lasting difference.
