The US Navy (USN) has deployed its latest variant Northrop Grumman E-2D Advanced Hawkeye airborne early warning and control (AEW&C) aircraft to Japan for the first time, the service announced on 2 February.

Five E-2Ds assigned to the 'Tiger Tails' of Carrier Airborne Early Warning Squadron (VAW) 125 arrived at Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Iwakuni to relieve the E-2Cs of VAW-115 'Liberty Bells'. The unit will now serve as the early-warning squadron of the USN's Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 5, supporting the USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76) Carrier Strike Group.
