U.S. Military's Ultimate Fear: Submarines, Aircraft Carriers and Stealth Are Now Obsolete?

What can Washington do about it?
Harry J. Kazianis [2]

The aircraft carrier, a symbol of American naval and overall power projection capabilities, seems under the most threat of being rendered a relic of the past. Almost every week, a new report casts a dark shadow on the future of this important U.S. military asset. The same seems to be said for submarines and stealth weapons. Is America about to see some of its greatest military assets become obsolete?

The nuclear-powered aircraft carrier. The nuclear-powered submarine. Ultra-advanced stealth bombers and fighters. These all represent the most lethal, sophisticated and expensive weapons in the U.S. military’s mighty arsenal—and they might soon all be close to obsolete.

Well, at least if certain technological trends bear fruit, according to a number of think-tank reports, research studies and in-depth essays that have been published over the last year.

Nuclear-tipped cruise missiles have rendered carriers "obsolete".

Particularly if a carrier has to deal with more than one coming in at once.

How many times have we heard this?

  • I was a "conspiracy theorist". Now I'm just right.
Well, if all that stuff is obsolete, what's the big beef about people owning decent rifles?

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

"This kind of attack may not sink the submarine, but would likely compel it to at least evade, breaking its initiative and making it more detectable.”"

Do these idiots have any freakin idea what our subs will do once they detect that they've been fired upon with nuclear weapons?
