Missouri has always been one of those States that fascinates me - the proverbial puzzle wrapped in an enigma. Even before its pivotal role in the Civil War it has always been shrouded in a bit of mystery.
I wish them luck, unions don't typically go quietly.
I live 12 mi. from the MO border. Grandma was born and raised there. It's a hybrid state. Not quite southern, not quite northern. I'd say it's most like southern Indiana or Ohio. Very steeped in Mark Twain river culture in the east, more like the plains in the west. Not uptight and stuffy, but not totally laid back either. Has a kind of genteel southern backwoods aspect to it in the rural areas, but not as hard core as say, W. Virginia. Their urban areas are much more northern in attitude, but not in a NYC or Chicago way.
I don't understand the politics greatly, but except for maybe some blue collar union areas, it's the typical conservative rural v. liberal urban split, though overall MO is very conservative, it's just the cities are large enough to get Dems elected statewide sometimes.
