If I'm not mistaken this one actually goes back to the Bush administration if not earlier.

Partially correct, yes. It looks like this expands to getting access to social media accounts and other websites.

Well it was too much to begin with but I'm guessing its A-OK with the sycophant brigades.

What type of bullshit story is this?

US residents are increasingly being coerced by customs agents to reveal the contents of their computers and social media accounts

The ban doesn't effect Us residents. It effects foreign nationals. I would tear this lazy slam piece further but I couldn't read any more of it because some genius thinks I should pay to read the rest of this brilliance.

It does effect Green Card and Permanent Visa holders, so some US residents are effected.

Your link says: "Green card holders are still going to be screen [sic] upon re-entry to the United States..."

All I need is a cmdline to type in one word, and then 10 minutes, and then anyone can look at my personal electronics all they want... And that also sets a trigger on my local.website, which will hit my server in less than 5 minutes... and poof! No eyebrows. Every machine on the LAN is WOL'd,  and any sensitive info is scrubbed clean. To include real email and off-site storage.

Anyone worth their salt that has sensitive data is likewise equipped. I don't know what they think they'll find.

I'm highly leveraged on my salt holdings.  I'd be afraid of all the reconstruction required to put my life back together!

Nah. I do quarterly manual backups to an encrypted container on an encrypted drive I keep off site. It's a pretty simple thing, though I can't destroy that one without driving to it and taking a hammer to it... And I don't nuke my drives. All the sensitive stuff is in particular directories, or particular drives. That stuff is all random char overwritten, deleted, and free space wiped. My normal business and personal remains untouched. Worst I'd lose is less than a quarter of sensitive data only... which in my case, is likely to be very little.

Another horseshiite headline.

I've had to turn on my phone and my laptop every single time I go through TSA security, and when going through security in India I have to turn everything on and they peruse my files to make sure I have no porn or Christian literature on my devices.  Been that way since 2010 in my experience of international travel.
Fart for freedom, fart for liberty and fart proudly.  - Benjamin Franklin

...Obsta principiis—Nip the shoots of arbitrary power in the bud, is the only maxim which can ever preserve the liberties of any people. When the people give way, their deceivers, betrayers and destroyers press upon them so fast that there is no resisting afterwards. The nature of the encroachment upon [the] American constitution is such, as to grow every day more and more encroaching. Like a cancer, it eats faster and faster every hour." - John Adams, February 6, 1775

Turning on your phone/laptop is different than unlocking it and showing TSA your Facebook profile.
